Al-Qushayri

Allahumma nawwir qulubana bi nuri ma'rifatik, ya arhamar rahimin.

Um, I want to start off this evening before we get right into the name that we'll study tonight with a, uh, a perspective given by, uh, Imam Qushayri.

Imam Qushayri is a classical scholar and he wrote a book on the names of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.

And he provides a kind of really deep perspective on what you gain from learning these names of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.

And he says it in this really like heavy, heavy passage.

He forgets to focus on his own name, her own name.

But then he says, Bal man sahiba isma Rabbihi ajib.

Imam Qushayri says, "You can't just know the name of God." Knowing the name of God doesn't do anything because even the Kuffar at the time of the Prophet knew Ar-Rahman.

It doesn't matter if no one knows my name." And, and so subhanallah, how many of us have volunteered for something, put all the work in, and then somebody else got the credit for it? Can you continue to do the work? Can you continue to volunteer? How many of us do something good and it never gets noticed? Never gets noticed.

As a person gets to know Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, they stop focusing on me building my own name.

So Imam Qushayri, he says, so profound, man arafa isma rab- rabbihi.

[speaks in foreign language] O Allah, enlighten our hearts with the light of knowing who you are.

So the books of Imam Qushayri, the books of Imam, the books of Imam al-Sulami.

And this idea of ethics and adab, and most importantly, guilds.
