When he did, Atlantic had left Stax Records in the relationships and we had to have product.

And that was when Al Bell encouraged Isaac to record, said that we needed a great number of albums and encouraged several of us to make records.

And though I had no intentions of going on the road and touring at that or anything like that, I made a record myself and it did well.

It was certainly not out of the sales of Isaac's record, but 250,000 albums was not bad.

But it was enough to make me feel real good that people were, to some degree, accepting what I was doing and had fun with it.

You write in a really interesting way about the decline of Stax when it eventually went bankrupt and it was sold.

There's this myth around Stax records that it was torn apart by racial division, that there were guns being pulled on people, that Al Bell was a crook.
