Like ships, for example, aircraft often spend much or most of their service lives outside of the country in which they're registered, so an Irish leasing company like AerCap, for example, can't rely on Irish law to give it the right to repossess an aircraft for non-payment if it was leased to a foreign airline and located outside of Ireland.
