Aegis Trust

In the years ahead, Freddie would continue his education, studying in Kigali to become a teacher, like his mother was, and later earning a master's degree in the Netherlands.

In 2004, he joined the Aegis Trust, which works to prevent genocide and mass atrocities worldwide.

He developed a peace education program and today leads the work of the Aegis Trust to expand to areas in other countries that are at risk and serves as the CEO of the Kigali Genocide Memorial.

He's still trying to make sense of the past, to try to understand those who were family and friends one day and genocidal exterminators the next.

Every day, he and his colleagues at the memorial ask the hard questions.

The only words to say I forgive you is actually what's remaining.

And he cannot get it without telling me the truth.

To further the work of truth and reconciliation, the Aegis Trust is launching the Isoko Peace Institute, which will work not only in Rwanda, but expand its efforts globally.
