SteveHOST
27:02
And you mentioned the third book is going through editors and getting reviewed now.
SteveHOST
27:09
Do you have a dedicated group of ARC readers or beta readers that you go to?
Robert A. WalkerGUEST
27:14
I do.
Robert A. WalkerGUEST
27:15
Thank you for asking because I'm still looking to grow that list.
Robert A. WalkerGUEST
27:19
Yeah, I have a newsletter that goes out to subscribers and many of them are on the ARC list.
Robert A. WalkerGUEST
27:25
Some others I've gotten through Facebook groups.
Robert A. WalkerGUEST
27:27
But if any of your listeners are interested in being advanced readers for the third book, I'm happy to have them.
Robert A. WalkerGUEST
28:10
But I think being able to have, again, that feedback from a group of actual readers.
Trinity MatthewsGUEST
13:52
I had someone bring their books to me every time they've seen me at an event just to sign them again, like with the date and stuff, and like...
Trinity MatthewsGUEST
14:00
I've met a few of my beta- ARC readers in person.
Trinity MatthewsGUEST
14:03
I went to Books, Gowns, and Crowns last year in Washington, and I met one of my ARC readers there that I've never met in person, and then I also met my editor in person.
Trinity MatthewsGUEST
14:14
Just we randomly saw each other.
Trinity MatthewsGUEST
14:15
We didn't know we were, either of us were going to the event.
Trinity MatthewsGUEST
14:21
I've met, I've met people from my online community in real life through these events, and like readers also through these events.
Trinity MatthewsGUEST
14:29
Like I met randomly also just one of my...
Trinity MatthewsGUEST
14:31
I have my beta readers, and then I have my ARC readers, and I met someone who beta read for me.
Leena KazakGUEST
10:05
So fast forward, I'm really glad I kept going.
Leena KazakGUEST
10:08
I think it worked out really well for me and so grateful for my team and the ARC readers because as much as I've done a lot, It would just be impossible without the community.
Leena KazakGUEST
10:19
It would be impossible without ARC readers and street team members and indie bookstores and influencers who champion stories and help them reach more readers.
Leena KazakGUEST
10:29
So that was like a long-winded way to say, I don't know, I kind of just like fell down a rabbit hole and I didn't really get back out.
Sara SantillanHOST
10:36
No, that's incredible.

8 MINS LATER

Leena KazakGUEST
18:50
a reader's first attention, if that makes sense.
Leena KazakGUEST
18:52
I think the hook really was helpful.
Leena KazakGUEST
18:55
I did do Instagram ads, but I did it more on ARC readers.
Juliet ClarkHOST
5:01
Instead of working with what was available and deciding the launch date.
Juliet ClarkHOST
5:06
So what happened was we didn't have any ARC readers on the book because we rushed and people found mistakes in the book.
Juliet ClarkHOST
5:14
So we had to go through and correct the mistakes after it was published.
Juliet ClarkHOST
5:18
So that was a problem.
Juliet ClarkHOST
5:19
But also that ARC, those ARC readers need about eight to 10 weeks.
Juliet ClarkHOST
5:24
Now the survivor's name, which will be out later this year or early January, I'm really leaning towards early January.
Juliet ClarkHOST
5:32
with the plan, we gave that book to our ARC readers in August.
Juliet ClarkHOST
5:38
That's the way it should be.
CandiceHOST
18:16
We know that you have a street team.
CandiceHOST
18:17
We know that you've recruited ARC readers.
CandiceHOST
18:19
Let's talk about events.
CandiceHOST
18:20
So as a debut author, how hard is it to find events that are near you?
Bronte BennettHOST
18:51
And I need somebody to tear it to pieces so that I can make sure it really works.
Bronte BennettHOST
18:56
So the other thing then, once we've got the book out there and we've done all of that hard work, some people talk about having beta readers and ARC readers.
Bronte BennettHOST
19:06
Did you use any of that sort of stuff at the beginning?
R.M. WoodGUEST
19:10
I did.
R.M. WoodGUEST
19:11
My beta readers were friends and family.
R.M. WoodGUEST
19:15
And then I did search out ARC readers, advanced reader copies.
R.M. WoodGUEST
19:21
Copy.
R.M. WoodGUEST
19:22
Yeah, that's it.
MariahHOST
46:28
...
MariahHOST
46:28
the last little thing that we had on here, which I think is a good little like segue to finish up, is that there was a, a woman who wrote this, um, romantasy that was inspired by Slavic lore, and come to find out, ARC readers were like, "Hey, I don't, I don't know if I feel comfortable read..." And she was like really aggressive, and other people have been like saying things about it.
MariahHOST
46:51
Her name's Serena Bradley, if we're just gonna be messy with it.
KristenHOST
46:54
I've never heard about this at all.
MariahHOST
47:55
And I don't know if it's just getting review-bombed, but it seems-
KristenHOST
47:58
Probably that
MariahHOST
47:58
... a lot of people that are saying, um, "I was an ARC reader, and I DNF'd," or it was just la-- the execution was lacking, and then like people are following up and be like, "You know what? I saw how they treated other ARC readers." And the whole thing is when you're an ARC reader is, one, you're not like legally required to read and review the books.
MariahHOST
48:18
Sometimes they'll be like, "Please, can you?" 'Cause like a review's a review.
N.R. FariasGUEST
15:50
Yeah.
N.R. FariasGUEST
15:51
And I have like a hundred ARC readers already signed up.
N.R. FariasGUEST
15:55
ARC signups are open and just a hundred people signing up is crazy.
N.R. FariasGUEST
16:00
And right now I'm really excited because it's a number of people wanting to read it and they found their way to me.
N.R. FariasGUEST
16:07
But at the same time, it's a hundred people reading my book.
N.R. FariasGUEST
16:13
It's excited and at the same time, a little bit nervous.
Melinda KucseraHOST
16:16
Oh, wow.
Melinda KucseraHOST
16:17
So if for those who don't know, ARC is it's ARC, it stands for advanced reader copy, which that's when author offers a copy of the book, and they hope that you will read it and review it.
