How did you come up with the concept for such a captivating story?

Yeah, that's a really interesting question.

It's an idea that I've been sitting with for a little while.

I think I'd noticed in the last few years something had shifted in a lot of the progress that had been made for those of us in the LGBTQIA plus community.

I think something seemed to be going backwards.

I think it might have been as a result of a lot of that debate that was going on in the lead-up to the marriage equality, you know, conversations, I think even though we had won that one, I think what had happened in the aftermath is that the floodgates had been opened for a lot of very horrible, toxic rhetoric.

And so I wanted to make a film that kind of addressed this odd return of homophobia into our society, but I didn't want to make the kind of film that, could have been made 30 years ago that I'd been seeing for years.
