His life spirals into chaos on Halloween night when they receive a phone call from a kidnapper who says he has abducted their son.

However, it is soon revealed that the kidnapper was mistaken and instead has snatched Hector, the son of the family's housekeeper, played by Adriana Paz.

The kidnapper, a small business owner ruined by environmental laws Mark previously advocated for, demands a $7 million ransom for the boy's release.

Having secretly drained his family's savings on his mayoral bid, Mark turns to his campaign manager, played by Oscar nominee Steven Yeun, to connect with Dale Burton, played by Gillian Anderson, a shady fixer who agrees to fund the ransom in exchange for steep extra fees that force Mark to put his home up as collateral.

Let, let me ask you about the language.

We were talking about, um, Luis Gerardo and, and Adriana Paz.

Adriana Paz.

Yeah.

And, and I was surprised to see the authenticity of the, of the language.

Sí.

And then I recognize that I'm from Mexico City, so Chilango, and that that's, that's where we say mano.

And, and then I, I realize how the other characters too, uh, Luis Gerardo Méndez and Adriana Paz, the way they were talking, that's exactly something that I recognized when I was growing up in Mexico City.

...

Gillian Anderson, Adriana Paz, Steven Yeun.

Mm-hmm.

Um, the story of Animals, which is streaming now on Netflix, is when the son of Los Angeles mayoral candidate Mark Kimble is kidnapped.

He grabbed us and he was like, guys, I really need you because this movie is about Mexico and the United States and you guys are the Mexican part of it.

So anything you want to change in the script, anything you want to change about the representation we're doing of these characters, please go ahead.

And that will be my job as mayor.
