But that being said, this is the best quarterback play that Nebraska has had since Adrian Martinez's first season in Lincoln.

And Adrian Martinez's second and third and whatever seasons in Lincoln would have been better had he not been left out to be killed by game plans that exposed him way too much.

But Adrian, as a freshman, was a terrific quarterback.

And Anthony Calandria, against the competition that he has played, has given Nebraska its most competent quarterback play since then.

So that would be reason to be excited about a freshman.

Did you ever look at his height and weight? because basically we moved him to running back and he's like i'm not a running back i'm gonna get destroyed and he transferred kind of like i don't want to say we ruined him here but it's like ah remember so adrian martinez led us in rushing two years in a row and then we moved the receiver to running back sure would have been nice if maurice washington would have worked out or just some other running back what was his height and

dude All right, that's a fair point as well.

He played really well his true freshman year.

That's the last time I can think of a true freshman being excited as a fan base as a whole, probably Adrian Martinez.

Not saying the Husker fans don't pay attention to details.

But I remember Gabe Irvin started as a freshman.

Um, you can't ask for much more from a true freshman.

I mean, he's the first f- true freshman to rush for over 100 yards in a game since Adrian Martinez.

And if you wanna talk about the last time a freshman running back did that, I believe it was Taire Green back in 2004 or '05.

That's a long time.

Uh, I mean, 2021 in Memorial Stadium.

Yeah.

I mean, three to four seconds, Adrian Martinez, his forward pr- progress is stopped and they won't blow the whistle.

Um- But the reason I'm curious to see the game more than anything is I wanna see if that Wolverine defense that looked so good against Western Michigan for most of that game is as good as advertised, 'cause they're gonna get tested by Oklahoma-

The other one, combine that with watching someone make that throw and make it look easy with the touchdown run that he had in the game where one, designed run play, two, should have been stopped, three, sheer competitiveness is what drove him into the end zone.

Yeah, Adrian Martinez could have done that.

Taylor Martinez, maybe not his style, but could have done that.

Tommy Armstrong could have done that.

Freshman running back Jamal Rule scored Nebraska's first touchdown in one yard run in the first quarter and marked Rule's third career carry.

He finished the game with 15 for 122, two touchdowns.

His 100-yard rushing game was the first by a freshman in a season opener since Adrian Martinez had won 17 against Colorado.

Rule was the first Husker running back to have 100 rushing yards in a season opener since T.R. Green, who ran for 112 against Western Illinois in 04.
