Adonijah

Okay, I looked it up.

Not only did David lose the baby, he also, because of his sin, lost Am- uh, Amnon, Absalom, and Adonijah.

Yeah.

So he lost total of at least four sons.

And the third, Absalom, the son of Maaka, the daughter of Talmai, king of Gesho.

And the fourth, Adonijah, the son of Haggith.

And the fifth, Shephatir, the son of Abital.

And the sixth, Ithraim, of Egla, David's wife.

From this time on,

how David's decision put Adonijah, Absalom, all his children in danger because of one particular thing he did.

His children came to buy the fruit.

Do you know that Solomon is not the first son of Bathsheba? The first son died because of what David did.

The young woman was very beautiful, and she was of service to the king and attended to him, but the king knew her not.

Now Adonijah the son of Hagith exalted himself, saying, I will be the king.

And he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen and fifty men to run before him.

His father had never at any time displeased him by asking, Why have you done thus and so? He was also a very handsome man, and he was born next after Absalom.

He conferred with Joab, the son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar, the priest, and they followed Adonijah and helped him.

But Zadok, the priest, and Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan, the prophet, and Shammai, and Ray, and David's mighty men, were not with Adonijah.

Adonijah sacrificed sheep, oxen, and fattened cattle by the serpent's stone, which is beside En-Rogel, and he invited all his brothers, the king's sons, and all the royal officials of Judah.

But he did not invite Nathan the prophet, or Benaiah, or the mighty men, or Solomon his brother.

In 1 Kings 1, David is old.

He's getting ready to die, and his son, Adonijah, decides he is gonna be king.

He usurps the crown.

He steals it.

He gets people to follow him, and he says, "I'm your next king." Well, David promised Solomon's mother, Bathsheba, that Solomon would be king.

Bathsheba and the prophet Nathan say, "We, we can't let this slide because Da- David's about to die, and not only will, uh, um, Adonijah take over, we will be his enemies." So they go to David and say, "David, here's the story.

What are you going to do?" We're gonna read in 1 Kings 1, and we're gonna verses 32 through 35.

This is after the prophet and Bathsheba tell David what's going on.
