This month, she said officials from the Administration for Community Living, part of the Department of Health and Human Services, confirmed to her that the funding had been eliminated.

She has since been trying to find alternative sources of funding.

The end of monetary support for the center means an end to the funding for five external researchers and may affect employment and research within the center as well, though some staff members have salaries that are only partly funded by the grant, Dr. Mitra said.
