And if fat mass is growing, we can gain fat mass through two different processes.

On one hand, a person can be gaining fat because all of the fat cells are growing or they are undergoing hypertrophy.

In contrast, someone could have gained the exact same mass of fat, and yet it didn't happen through a change in the size of the fat cells substantially, but rather it was an addition or a synthesis or a creation of new fat cells, which is a process called hyperplasia.

So on one hand, we have hypertrophic fat cells, which are fewer in number, but substantially larger in volume or size.

And then on the other hand, we have the hyperplastic fat cells, which are much more abundant, but generally smaller in size and volume.

They care a great deal about that, and when they see insulin, what they do is they turn on a protein, they start making a protein that will cause glucose to be taken up into that adipocyte, that fat cell.

And that glucose will then be converted through a series of chemical reactions into a fat molecule, and then that fat molecule will be stored away in a way that is very safe and enabled to be stored for potentially a very long time.

Again, these are the, the, the products of the metabolic map are the amino acids that make proteins and the nucleotides that are required to make DNA and RNA, our genome.
