ADCC Submission Fighting World Championship

They look at his stuff, his defensive jujitsu stuff, and they say, "Well, this would never work at the highest levels.

You absolutely cannot pull panda and blah, blah, blah, and go and win an ADCC World Championship." Well, Preet's not saying that you could, right? That's not the goal of his stuff.

Where his stuff comes into play, it has a very specific purpose, and I found especially for beginners who are probably terrified of the idea of jujitsu in the first place, if you give them a few low-impact ways to keep safe so that they can develop a degree of confidence from a defensive position, it's easy to build on top of that, right? You've set a foundation now where now, once you've psychologically got the buy-in from the customer, you can teach them that, "Okay, here's how we can actually be effective from here." But it's not all or nothing.

You don't just take defensive jujitsu and say, "That is the entirety of my game." And I think that as coaches and as communicators, we should always be looking to decompose our ideas and give people more small, actionable things to get them one step forward, rather than expecting them to be immediately comfortable in, like, a saddle or something, right? When they've never seen that position before.

He's-- it's like, uh, he has a Steven Seagal mythology about him, but the results back it up.

What do you think Gordon will do? Because if you rip the ass out of everyone that's competitive at ADCC, the legitimacy of the ADCC competition then goes away.

What's left to do?

He'll still do ADCC.

Is that your, if you were to put money on the table, some of your big wads of cash?

[laughs] Yeah, yeah.

That's not in my house anymore, for the record.

Um, yeah, he will still do ADCC.

I want to keep it fun as well, but I want to teach high percentage moves.

What are the moves that are working at IBGF black belt level? What are the moves that are working at ADCC? Did you know that the majority of submissions at ADCC two years ago now was actually from the back? and chokes i would have thought it was leg locks but it actually was with all the kind of the evolution of leg locks but it wasn't so i want to teach high level fundamental stuff and basics But I also want to have fun.

Like, yeah, 95% of our classes are going to be moves that will improve you and make you better at jiu-jitsu that will work at a high level.

But also let's throw in some, you know, bow and bolos and some Instagram jiu-jitsu as well, just to keep it a bit lighthearted, you know, and also tailoring.

There was actually like rules in place that were banning a lot of leg locks from, you know, like IBJJF, which is like the big international competition that everybody goes to or that facilitates everything.

There were a lot of split off leagues that were happening where it was like ADCC and like NAGA and things of that nature where it was like, no, we want to encourage leg locks.

And I feel like I'm drawing a little bit of a parallel here.

And the reason I'm telling you all of that is because so much of what we have deemed as like unacceptable for competition and trail running and like trash talking and like, you know, chipping at people or like getting mouthy.

And now I'm seeing a little bit of the same thing where it's like, there's this like mainstream everything, which is like the 100 milers, you know, UTMB, Hard Rock, Western States, I look at that as like the IBJJF from the Jiu-Jitsu side.

And now I'm looking at like 200s and backyards and things of that nature where everybody's like, dude, bets are off.

Like, let's just fucking do this thing as being the like Naga and ADCC where like we kind of welcomed a little bit more of that like rambunctious, environment that like brings in big personalities brings people into the sport that like really catapult it to the next level and you you're forever going to see these frictions between the people that view it from that old way of thinking and the way that things should be done and and then you'll see this diversion of people that kind of gravitate towards the other things and like what ended up happening in the jiu-jitsu world was there was kind of this split where it's like you've got the guys that train in the gi and they kind of do traditional jiu-jitsu and compete in that nature and that side of the sport is still very much growing and healthy and there's also this subdivision of like nogi which you don't wear the gi you're essentially in like a wrestling uniform Leg locks are very much encouraged and very much a part of the game like with that.

And so that's kind of been like my viewpoint over the past couple of weeks that I've sort of developed on this is like, we're just kind of in that like growing phase where like this thing's going to kind of like come to a head in terms of friction and everybody's going to kind of be at each other's throats.
