One other author refers to it as the period of general divine revelation because this describes God's method of communication to man before the law was given at Sinai.

And so we find that this period commences with one family, that's Adam's family, and ends some 1600 or so years later with one family, Noah's.

Now of all the sons and daughters that Adam and Eve begat, and there were a number of them because in the next chapter it tells us that they begat sons and daughters, plural, the Bible focuses on three important men, Cain, Abel and Seth and we'll be introduced to each of those in the chapter before us but for this morning's message and the section of the chapter we're focusing on we're looking at those first two sons of Adam and Eve Cain and Abel their names would go down in biblical history one Abel becoming we could say famous in a spiritual sense for his godliness The other, Cain, infamous as the first murderer in the Bible and the one who rejected God's way of salvation.

We know that this account before us is treated as literal history in the New Testament because we have Abel referenced four times and we have Cain referenced three times.

And so again, we have literal events taking place in Genesis chapter 4.

So I suggest as a very strong possibility and as a logical possibility that this was the place where the first family brought their sacrifices, a place where they could come and hear from God.

Now I'm not going to be dogmatic on that, we don't know for sure.

Whatever the case may be, clearly there was an established pattern for worship from the earliest time, God no doubt having instructed our first parents, Adam and Eve, concerning the need to approach him in this way.

Um, and so one of the themes I wanna touch on today and unpack today, it's a theme very precious to me.

It's very core to the gospel, and it's this question, um, that the Lord asked me years ago, uh, as I was reading the text from 1 Corinthians 15, "Are you from Adam, or are you from Christ?" And it's a very pointed question, and I think it's the most important question to ask any believer and specifically a new believer if we're discipling people.
