Adam Nussbaum

Guitarist John Scofield, born December 26, 1951, first rose to prominence as a member of Miles Davis' Band, but he had a number of good credits prior to the three and a half years he spent with Davis, including stints with Chet Baker, Hal Galper, Charles Mingus, Bill Cobham, and George Duke.

His own groups have featured such luminaries as Steve Swallow, Adam Nussbaum, Bill Stewart, Joe Lovano, and Charlie Haden.

He has been nominated for nine Grammy Awards and won three.

We're featuring John Scofield this week.

I've seen him play too.

Yeah.

When I saw him, he was playing with a, a drummer we talked about earlier, Adam Nussbaum.

Oh, yeah.

[jazz music]

[jazz music][jazz music] And that was "Split" from, uh, Linley Hamilton's quintet, the album, uh, with the American duo of Adam Nussbaum and, uh, Mark Egan, drums and bass respectively.

Um, along with Derek O'Connor on the tenor, uh, Cian Boylan at the keyboard.

It was recorded in 2019, I think, but I'm blessed if I can find out when the recording was actually issued thereafter, but that doesn't really matter, does it? It's an absolute standout recording start to finish.

He's been a member of the two-time Grammy award-winning WDR big band Cologne since 2005.

He's released 10 previous recordings under his own name and played with U.S. musicians like Johnny Griffin, Jimmy Cobb, Eddie Gomez, Al Foster, Adam Nussbaum, just to name a few.

And he's married to Dutch jazz singer Faye Clausen.

We've heard him before with the WDR Big Band on the podcast and also with vibraphonist Matthias Strücken on I Love You Porgy, also on the Jazz Jazz label back in 2022.
