But next, it sounds as though the Blues are going to protect Adam Jiricek in the early going.

And Alex, you said JR mentioned something interesting about Jiricek and where he is expecting to be utilized early on this year.

Yeah, so JR being the incredible reporter that he is, he had a, a one-on-one with, with Jiricek Monday after their skate, uh, before they hopped on the jet.

This comes 25 years after Bobby Bonilla's pulled hamstring caused the Cardinals to bring up a rookie named Albert Pujols for opening day.

The Blues brought up prize po- prospect Adam Jiricek, who will see ice time for Jim Montgomery.

We haven't made complete, finished plans yet.

I have no problem sliding him in there, but if he slides in there, they're not gonna play the number one offensive line.

Kind of sounds like Tony La Russa back in 2001 talking about hitting Albert Pujols seventh with a lineup that had the likes of, uh, Mark McGwire and, uh, so many more.

Uh, obviously, that was a, a great lineup.

Montgomery added that Jiricek will play on the power play because his offensive ability is so strong, and at the outset, he'll be paired with Philip Broberg.

The Blues also added former Avalanche first rounder Justin Barron off the waiver wire from Nashville.

Why would they prioritize other teams, Callie Rosen, over these other alternatives? He's passed through before, he's probably gonna pass through again to be a part of our organization.

If we have an injury, we're calling up Jiricek." The other guy that we have on the roster, that seventh D, he's not getting the next chance Jiricek will, because we want him to play.

He's the guy who won't be here as the seventh defenseman, 'cause we don't want him sitting on the bench, or sitting up in the press box, rather.

We want him playing.

Yeah.

I, I get if you were gonna go with six defenseman because of what you're talking about.

If you deal with an injury, you end up just calling up Adam Jiricek.

You just kind of skip over Callie Rosen.

You do that with, uh, Connor McMichael.

I know they bring in a little bit of veteran, uh, experience on the blue line with Brandon Carlo, which is something that they, you know, feel like, uh, is good insurance for them in case Adam Jiricek is not ready.

And, uh, you know, it, it's a good complement right now because he's been playing with Cam Fowler, so that, you know, that, you, you could probably find a lot worse, uh, third, third-pairing Ds than two solid veterans like that.

But, uh, you know, they're, they're giving a lot of young guys a lot of opportunity here.

canWell, we have this Adam Jiricek, and you know, he's just a first-year pro this year, but he's a first rounder.

Where'd he come from?

Uh, well he's from the Czech Republic, but he played, uh, in Brampton last year, won Defenseman of the Year.

You know, two guys, uh, Justin Carbonneau, who might not be here at the start of this year, I think is gonna eventually have a big impact and could be that player that you've been hoping for for a number of years in terms of scoring goals.

A- and then, uh, I think Adam Jiricek, a name that you guys are certainly familiar with, might not make the camp out of camp this year.

Uh, they, looks like they got their six or seven D set, but he could get a cup of coffee this year, show 'em what he could do.

Uh, probably tear up Springfield.
