Adam-12

There is a heart to this movie.

And here's the love story with Adam 12.

I mean Alan M. and Josie.

And they're figuring out that they both kind of like each other.

She's already liked him.

And one of the funny jokes is that Wyatt can't get his name right.

And he does call him Adam 12.

So the future.

And I remember how Hollywood works because it's very different.

They were doing Dragnet and Adam 12 at the time.

And the owner of the company said, yeah, if you're going to be able to direct one of each.

And I was so happy, like I made it as a director, like a professional director.

Tony Curtis delivers perhaps the finest performance of his career as Sidney Falco, a desperate press agent whose ambition repeatedly overwhelms his conscience.

Susan Harrison makes an impressive film debut as Susan Hunsucker, while Martin Milner, later of Adam-12, provides quiet dignity as jazz musician Steve Dallas.

Supporting performances from Sam Levine, Barbara Nichols, Jeff Donnell, she's great, and Emile Meyer complete one of the strongest ensembles of the noir era.

Sidney Falco, Tony Curtis, is a struggling New York press agent whose career depends upon pleasing the city's most powerful newspaper columnist, J.J. Hunsecker, Burt Lancaster.

And this is a very unique, uh, pairing.

Martin Milner, of course, would get known for going on to play in Route 66 and, uh, he'd also play his signature role on Adam-12, um, as Officer Pete Malloy.

Uh, and o- other roles, other roles as well.

He was the first mur- uh, murder victim when Columbo became a regular, uh, a regular item on, uh, TV.

And welcome back.

Um, wow.

If you, you've, you've heard and seen Martin Milner in his, uh, roles, uh, par- particularly in Adam-12, you couldn't tell it was the same actor.

Uh, because when, when he got to the point of playing, uh, Pete Malloy, uh, 16 years later, voice was a lot deeper, a lot more distinct than, uh, it is as he plays Bill Lockwood.

Oh, yeah.

But where did her character first appear?

Oh, really? So I'm going to guess Adam-12.

Yeah.

Wow.

I love it.

Yep.

I love it because I loved Adam-12 when I was a little kid.

I barely remember it now because I was so young, but my parents watched it, so I watched it too.

if they were on there anyway, yeah.

I, you know, I didn't watch a lot of...

I mean, I remember it.

Mm-hmm.

Do you remember what they said on the radio at all?

It was 1 Adam-12 was the call sign, right? No? Am I wrong?

And this has been a common thing.

But then on the other side of it, you have the sanitized version that Jack Webb presented in Dragnet and Adam-12 throughout the 50s, 60s, and 70s.

making the LAPD into some sort of super unit that was clean and pristine and all the rest of that.

So I think that's ultimately what it is, is that a temptation becomes such that when you're in those situations and there's nobody running or monitoring you or willing to... call you out, the temptation oftentimes becomes too great to cross the line and go from good guy to corrupt public servant.

And, uh, you know, my dad wanted me to be a doctor.

I would say that I'm just not that smart, but one of the things ever that influenced me growing up was television back then, you know, watching, uh, Adam 12, the police show emergency, uh, which is the paramedic show and a lot of movies about Vietnam and Korea.

And I just found it inspiring on how I saw people, how people in those shows and how soldiers fought for our country, that when it was time for me to make a decision to go to college, I did get accepted into colleges, but I just had this overwhelming feeling that I wanted to give back to this country that had given my family so much, you know, and I'm blessed.

I have two great parents, you know, and I'll talk a little bit about that later, but, um, you know, Not everybody has that.
