Actuarial science

Uh, essentially, went to school for a degree no one's heard of.

It's basically math, actuarial science.

I was supposed to be working for insurance companies, taking tests, doing all this math stuff, and then essentially ended up in finance.

Worked at some big faceless organizations, as I like to call them.

For example, I can decide which problem I work, who I collaborate with.

So in academia, we have different schools, and I'm in the risk and actuarial studies.

But so in my opinion, the schools, the areas are just for HR or management purposes, but the problem itself has no boundaries of disciplines.

Yeah.

Mm-hmm

... and, uh, one of the toughest courses I think there ever is, so Actuarial Science.

So-

And then stayed on to do some postgraduate stuff in Actuarial Science.

Okay.

So I studied Actuarial Science at the University of Lagos, and it was there that actually my dream began to come together.

I had an early experience with what I wanted to do.

Actuarial science is the mathematics, in summary, is the mathematics of finance.

That's what it is, right? But it was situated in the same faculty and in the same department as the insurance department.

So we took insurance courses, and that was how I got involved in insurance matters and I started showing interest.

... and my salary arrears were paid.

So once that happened and I got onto the register...

No, I see it maybe more...

What's the word? Actuarially.

And I appreciate how you've put it into a purpose.

So the purpose of making people healthier is something I get a warm feeling about.
