And Chris has been a friend of mine, a mentor, collaborator, and occasionally an enthusiastic supplier of methodologic questions that usually require three cups of coffee for me to understand.

I'm also grateful to the editor-in-chief of Academic Emergency Medicine, Dr. Jeffrey Klein, who saw the value of the SGEMHOP and supported the initiative.

The idea behind the SGEMHOP was to take important new papers, something that was just going to be published that month, and appraise them while they were still hot off the press, speaking directly with one of the authors, and having an open discussion with the wider emergency medicine community.

Over the years, that series has benefited from an outstanding group of co-hosts.

As we enter the crystal season, there will be some changes.

We will be retiring the SGEM Hop series, not because it was unsuccessful, quite the opposite.

I'm deeply grateful to Chris Carpenter, the co-hosts, the authors of the papers, Jeff Klein, Academic Emergency Medicine, and all the SGEMers who participated in these conversations.

But every intervention should be reassessed occasionally, and sometimes even a successful intervention deserves a thoughtful deprescribing.
