The nature of things is that when you want someone to lead your army, you will probably pick Khalid and not Abu Bakr when you don't want someone to govern people who lived in luxury under a powerful and glamorous civilization to be Muawiyah, not necessarily Abu Darda person.

And then, so objection to some of Othman's policies, some of Othman's appointments, objections now became protest, the protest became siege, the siege became bloodshed and sanctity of blood was violated in the Medina of the Prophet and the leader of the believers was slaughtered in the Medina of the Prophet of course this will result in a huge fitna Of course, people, you know, and not only this, but the people who besieged the Medina also mistreated the wives of the Prophet ﷺ.

And they were like obnoxious people.

He's going to check in on his friend, Abu Darda.

Mm-hmm.

He's going to his house, he knocks on the door, and Umm Darda, his wife, answers-

Are you okay?" Just checking in on her.

Mm-hmm.

And she responds essentially that, look, your, your friend Abu Darda has no need for this world.

Prays all night.

True understanding of faith.

Abu Darda radiyallahu ta'ala anhu, the great companion of the Prophet alayhi s-salatu was-salam, he said, "Min fiqh al-abdi an ya'lama a yazeedu imanuhu am yanqus." He said that from the true understanding of an individual is to know is his iman increasing or decreasing.

Th- this, this requires some effort on your part to really think about yourself.

Is my iman going up or is it going down? And then he says, "Wa min fiqh al-abdi an ya'lama nazaghata sh-shaytan min aina ta'ti." And from the fiqh, from the true understanding of a person is to know his weak points, where the whispers of Shaytan enter.

Look at this.

Because this is a door upon which...

And this is what Abu Darda is telling us, Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu.

From the fiqh of a person, your true understanding of faith is to know where Shaytan enters from.

Number two, وَارُزِقَ كَفَافًا Allah doesn't give you too much which will spoil you and distract you.

Abu Darda radiyallahu anhu, Some of the ulama, they say that he would make a dua to Allah saying, one of the things that he feared the most, he says, اللهم لا تجعلني المال في كل وادٍ Oh Allah, don't give me wealth in every valley.

He would be afraid of having wealth in every location because he would be all over the place, too much money, too many bills, too many responsibilities, you're wearing too many hats.

You're a CEO, a supervisor, you're running too many operations, you're not gonna be able to sit down and have one cup of coffee.

بلغه الله منازل الشهداء "Allah will deliver him to the station of the martyrs" وإن مات على فراشه, "even if he happens to die on his bed." See? It gets you farther.

You know, Abu Darda, the companion of the Prophet Alayhi Salatu Wasallam, he used to say, listen to this, "How wonderful, how wonderful is the sleeping of the wise and their breaking of fast." The wise person, even though they're not fasting and they're not praying at night, the sleeping and the non-fasting of the wise person, how it outshines the night prayers and the fasting of the foolish.

What does he mean by that? He said because the person of taqwa, when your heart is present and seeking Allah by your actions, he said a, a droplet of taqwa, of piety, of sincerity, will outdo a mountain heap of good deeds from those who are self-deluded, right? From those who are not paying attention to their intentions.

And Abdullah ibn Mubarak Rahimahullah, he would say, "How many small deeds were made great because of the intention behind them, and how many great deeds were turned into nothing because of the intention behind them." And so this is the first piece and the most important piece in all of Islam, not just in this hadith.

Here he says, إِنَّ الَّذِي يُعَلِمُ النَّاسَ الْخَيْرُ يَسْتَغْفِرُ لَهُ كُلُّ دَابَةٍ حَتَّى الْحُوتِ فِي الْبَحْرِ This is a hadith that we just discussed.

The origin of it is the hadith of Abu Darda.

This hadith basically mentions that fish will do istighfar for the talib al-ilm.

And there's many ahadith that show the virtues of seeking knowledge.

The hadith, when Allah intends good for someone, He grants him understanding of the religion and inspires him to right conduct, is agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim from the hadith of Muawiyah, except for the phrase, and inspires him to right conduct, which is found in At-Tabarani's Al-Kabir.

The hadith, the scholars are the inheritors of the prophets, was narrated by Abu Darda.

The hadith, all creatures seek forgiveness for the scholar, is part of the previous hadith of Abu Darda.

The hadith, wisdom increases the honor of the noble, was narrated by Anas, though it has a weak chain.

The hadith, two qualities never coexist in a hypocrite, was narrated by Abu Huraira, who noted it is a rare hadith.
