So there's this struggle against the local Aboriginal Protection Board, where they're trying to get at least some influence over their own affairs-

There's a poem called Footnote to a History War

and in it he has these excerpts from Aboriginal people writing to the Aborigines Protection Board about their children and then the responses.

And they're all actually quoted from the archives.

And I'll read you two stanzas.

Between 1881 and 1967, the Bangalong, along with other nations of New South Wales, were under the protection of the State Protector of Aborigines.

That was replaced by the Aboriginal Protection Board, then the Welfare Board.

In 1918, an area of land called Bayugul was set aside for the Bangalong.

It was very generous.
