Abd Allah ibn Sa'd

According to Islamic tradition, this isn't just like a critical perspective.

According to Islamic tradition, this is a guy named Abdullah ibn Sa'd.

Um... and he actually became a skeptic after he observed that his own suggested textual emendations were accepted by muhammad as divine revelation so he reasoned that if he could alter the text and have it recognized as god's word then uh it wasn't inspired um so this led him to conclude that the quran was a work of human engineering rather than divine speech and he uh fled medina to return to mecca and renounced islam and declared muhammad was not a true prophet so that was described that was the actual guy who wrote the quran um so there's no comparison really uh the faith of the apostles survived until death, and usually death in gruesome and terrible ways.

Whereas Abdullah, the guy who took dictation from Muhammad himself, said, fake prophet, fake scripture, this is all a hoax.

And Jurjil, he comes out to him with up to 200,000 soldiers.

And because of what he knew of Abdullah ibn Sa'd, radiallahu ta'ala anhu, he said, "Whoever kills Abdullah ibn Sa'd, radiallahu ta'ala anhu, will receive 100,000 dinars, and I will marry my daughter to him." Right? So Gregory was giving an incentive to his own army specifically with a bounty on Abdullah ibn Sa'd's head because of how fierce he was in battle and because of how competent he was as a commander of that army that included some of the greatest companions of the Prophet, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.

So get him 100,000 dinars, and you get to marry my daughter.

So when Abdullah ibn Sa'd heard about this, radiallahu ta'ala anhu, he said to the Muslims, "Whoever kills Gregory, I'll give him 100,000 dinars, and I'll marry Gregory's daughter to him, and I'll appoint him over his land." And so the battle broke out after Fajr until Dhuhr.

Now, by the way, there's another story that gets conflated with this.

It was Abdullah ibn Abi Sarh, which I might do a separate, uh, side episode on that one, Inshallah Ta'ala, on that particular episode.

But this, this is hard.

It's hard on the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
