Um, but if you're trying to get into these smaller creeks or smaller channels, like that long canoe is just arduous to try and move around and deal with.

Aaron BergGUEST
Um, so having that small canoe, you can get up and over logs with it if they're, you know, an inch or two under the water.

Aaron BergGUEST
If you get a little speed underneath you, you can, you can try and hop over some stuff.

Aaron BergGUEST
Um, and just the, the weight wise, if you got a long walk or a long drag between creek channels or, or different parts of a marsh-

... um, because you are hanging off the side, and, you know, i- if it's not straight, then you just end up, you know, lassoing around the tree or swinging around the tree every time, um, which makes it pretty tough.

What rubber boots do you run? What hip boots do you run? What waders do you run?
A
11:27Aaron BergGUEST
I think they're frog togs or something like that, that you buy at, you know, fleet farm.

So, I'm kind of curious when you're walking back there or you're getting back there and you're in hip boots and hip waders, are you bringing extra clothing and deer or boots and gear so that once you get to a spot, then you change your clothes because of being wet or you change your hip waders into a pair of hiking boots or are you sitting in hip waders the entire time?

Aaron BergGUEST
Last year that got me, it screwed up a hunt for me a little bit because I was in chest waders with felt sole boots on just because it was a long walk and I didn't want to be in neopremes and I didn't want to be in, you know, cheap rubbers that are freezing cold.

Aaron BergGUEST
every time you try and adjust your weight or move your feet it's cracking ice so you literally cannot move and i mean i'm hunting out of a saddle and i one stick up and it's like i need to be able to have some sort of movement and yeah i had a tough shot last year on a buck and it was simply because i couldn't move my feet once i saw it i was like i know how noisy this thing is right now so i'm I have to go over the bridge and try and do a downward shot on the weak side.

Does it become predictable over time to know where deer are bedding, to where you know where you can, where you need to be versus where you can't go?

Aaron BergGUEST
Like you said, they don't bed in water, so the, the more time you spend in these swamps finding these, these small high spots...

Aaron BergGUEST
I have never really seen it where bucks are bedding on the bigger oak islands or the bigger open flats.

Aaron BergGUEST
So knowing where those are is pretty important, but again, like you said, if you look on, on any map or any decent aerial, like you can see the trails running from these little pockets, and even if you can't tell that it's a higher spot from the map, like if you see nine different trails running into this one section and then blasting out the other side, it's like, well, there's something there that they care about.

Talk to me a little bit about that hunt specifically and why all of a sudden this, you know, like, dude, I want to go to Montana on an elk hunt.

Aaron BergGUEST
You know, you watch the videos and the YouTube stuff, and you're like, God, it looks unbelievable out there, just the scenery and going after these monstrous animals.

Aaron BergGUEST
And I was a charter boat captain at the time, and one of my customers actually invited me to go with him.

Um, and the guy I went with, I mean, he was, I think he was like 73 or 74 at the time.

A

It just happened that every single one of those five deer was walking past that trail camera every day.

They were actually feeding out on the private, um, but bedding up in the public land, so we'd seen them in the private in the morning and then went in in the afternoon.
A

And so I went over the next ridge and was gonna try and cut them off before they got back to that public.
