A Tribe Called Quest

His new album is a tribute to the late hip hop producer J Dilla.

J Dilla made his mark as a pioneering producer, creating unusual beats that became the soundtrack to artists like Erykah Badu, A Tribe Called Quest, and Busta Rhymes himself.

The two formed a musical partnership that turned into a lifelong friendship until Dilla passed in 2006.

And when Dilla died, he left behind more than 300 unreleased beats.

I mean, what was it like to be in the studio with them again, and also honoring that beautiful voice of D'Angelo?

First and foremost, I gotta give a big huge and tremendous shout-out to everybody that participated in the album, because they all came to honor not only Dilla and myself indi- individually, but they also felt an obligation to contribute to honoring our collective work history and, um, what we've always been able to do throughout the 30 years of working and, and being a part of each other's legacies.

But the thing that I do wanna give a big shout-out to is the fact that I met both my incredible brothers, J Dilla and D'Angelo, through the incredible Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest.

Oh.

Uh, We're also going to have Five Iron Frenzy, Upbeats and Beatdowns go against OC Supertones, the adventure of the OC Supertones.

In Region 2, we're going to have a Tribe Called Quest, People's Instinctive Travels, the Passive Rhythm versus De La Soul, Three Feet High and Rising.

Then we're going to have Cypress Hill debut, Cypress Hill versus House of Pain, House of Pain.

Then we're going to move into region three.

So Goldfinger moves on and now Five Iron Frenzy move on.

Okay.

Round two, we have A Tribe Called Quest, People's Synthetic Travels and the Paths of Rhythm, which came out in 1990 versus De La Soul, Three Feet High and Rising, which came out in 1989.

So both of these albums, I remember as a young guy listening, liking them i remember watching bet and watching videos from both de la soul and tropical quest uh so starting off with a tropical quest this one has i left my walton el sagando all the way to beneath apple balm and of course can i kick it uh as a kid i loved these songs saying things rap these songs i i really really loved it i thought it was very very cool i i i loved the beats i loved their cadences i love their their i don't know i love that that was just good stuff so that's like a very very core memory of me is of this album now with de la soul uh three feet high and rising dude i remember you and i both singing potholes in my lawn
