JeremyHOST

But the movies I would be renting to spend my evening, I would, uh, get my Burger King meal, go home, pop in Freddy vs. Jason, starting it off as a rental.
JeremyHOST
62:58
A Tale of Two Sisters, the Korean film, came out that year before October.
ChadHOST
63:03
So?
JeremyHOST
63:05
And, well, I, I love that movie, and I remember watching-
IdaGUEST
14:43
I haven't, no.
NickHOST
14:45
Um, the, the bear in that movie.
TJHOST
14:50
Uh-huh.
TJHOST
14:50
Yeah, that's, that's-
IdaGUEST
17:02
Thanks for having me again.
TJHOST
17:04
Yay.
TJHOST
17:06
And this week, our week two, we're watching, well, we're watching another horror movie, this one brought by myself.
TJHOST
17:15
And that movie that I brought in is Ghostwatch from 1992, directed by Leslie Manning.
Damian AsherHOST
39:32
And he directed A Bittersweet Life.
Damian AsherHOST
39:34
Um, uh, he also directed The Quiet King, The Quiet Family, sorry, The Foul King, uh, uh, Tale of Two Sisters, The Good, The Bad, The Weird, I Saw the Devil, The Last Stand, the Arnie film.
Damian AsherHOST
39:46
Um-
Adam NightingaleHOST
39:47
Great, great Arnie film, by the way.
Austin LimGUEST
61:25
Yeah, totally.
Austin LimGUEST
61:26
Um, there's this Korean film that came out a couple decades ago called A Tale of Two Sisters.
Austin LimGUEST
61:31
That's one that I remember being absolutely terrifying.
Austin LimGUEST
61:35
It just plays into dread so well.
Shawn MorrisseyHOST
8:25
It's a, uh, horror film.
Shawn MorrisseyHOST
8:27
It was a, an adaptation of the, uh, what's, people know as the Tale of Two Sisters.
Justin KyleGUEST
8:33
Yeah, yeah.
Shawn MorrisseyHOST
8:34
Yeah.

18 MINS LATER

Shawn MorrisseyHOST
26:32
They're not uniquely Korean.
Shawn MorrisseyHOST
26:34
Um, they, um, yeah, a lot of the stories are, the way they're kinda depicted, especially later in film, is that yeah, they need help, or, or the way the stories are often told in a way is that they need help, and it's usually from a man.
Shawn MorrisseyHOST
26:48
But if you look at, um, a lot of the ways the stories are told, especially like the, The Tale of Two Sisters, like the, the, that, that tale, um, the way it's often told, y- y- they are virgins.
Shawn MorrisseyHOST
27:03
The girls are virgins, but that's not why they become ghosts.
ChrisHOST
72:12
[laughs]
ChrisHOST
72:13
We've watched three of his films now, 'cause we also did A Tale of Two Sisters a couple years ago.
ChrisHOST
72:17
I mean, we've basically-
ChrisHOST
72:19
Yep
Candis GreenHOST
7:40
For me, these are movies that are a little spooky, but that I can easily enjoy and reap the mental health benefits from, and where my nervous system feels nice and cozy and regulated.
Candis GreenHOST
7:52
If we go all the way to the very scary side, I place a movie like A Tale of Two Sisters or even further for that matter, something like Megan Is Missing, which for me is a movie I will just never watch based on the subject matter, because I know it's completely past my window of tolerance, and it would upset me in a way that is not fun, and why torture ourselves, am I right? Horror is supposed to be fun.
Candis GreenHOST
8:26
It's supposed to help us navigate our own darkness, and it's supposed to be a place to lay down our anxieties for a few hours.
Candis GreenHOST
8:34
I love spooky movies that go a little easier on their audience because it helps the genre to be inclusive and accessible.
ChrisHOST
34:43
We've already watched one of his films on this podcast a couple years ago.
ChrisHOST
34:47
We watched A Tale of Two Sisters as part of our Halloween extravaganza.
ChrisHOST
34:52
Um, so we're watching maybe his most recognized film, maybe his best film.
ChrisHOST
34:59
I haven't seen all his movies, but I'm assuming his most viscerally brutal film, um, and that is I Saw the Devil.
