A Child of My Own

So really excited to check out a brand new docu and have you guys join the chat.

This week, of course, we are discussing A Child of My Own or more appropriately, Un Hijo Propio.

I don't want to sound super self-indulgent, but I just feel like that's appropriate to the film because it is.

I mean, they included it.

What had done that to the rudder post was a worm, but a lie can do the same thing to a life.

The brilliant and singular film, A Child of My Own, is an exploration of how a tiny untruth, taken to extremes, can become a whirlpool that sucks in everyone around it.

In a tale too strange for fiction, the film dissects the story of a young woman who faked a pregnancy, took a baby, and unleashed holy hell on those around her.

But most of all, on herself.

This documentary is a wild ride and I will definitely be looking forward to discussing it next week.

This episode, of course, is devoted to the documentary Sweet Bobby, My Catfish Nightmare.

And actually, I got quite invested and it's quite like a gripping story.

Um, it's called A Child of My Own, and it's basically about this lady who's completely delusional and how she kind of like essentially steals a baby, but like she still to this day says that she had an agreement with the mum and like-

Oh, God

... basically, basically she like, yeah, it is really interesting.

And, um, let's jump right into it.

So when I watched A Child of My Own, I thought about the, the playfulness and the elusiveness of how you approach your subjects through time.

Mm-hmm.

And just thinking about The Mole Agent and The Eternal Memory, and these stories are kind of constantly evolving and taking shape.

And I'm curious, with A Child of My Own, what was your kind of initial idea of Alejandra Marin Mendoza's case? And just tell me about meeting her for the first time and how your perception of her changed through making the film.

Yeah, it was interesting because I was not looking for her.

I didn't know the case before because I live in Chile, and this happened in Mexico.
