2012 Summer Paralympics

I am Brock Richardson, and I am a two-time Paralympic athlete in the sport of bocce.

I competed at the 2008 Paralympic Games and the 2012 Paralympic Games.

From that, I moved on and found the Accessible Voice in Broadcasting course, and I took that and was an intern with Voices for Ability for a couple of years.

And then I started doing the Neutral Zone podcast, which we're going to talk about, of course.

I think it would be great to talk a little bit...

Now, I've had guests on this show who have talked a lot about 2012 and the Paralympics and the G-

Yeah

... and the, uh, and the Olympic Games.

So, um, it might be quite good to hear your journey from sort of officiating at, in a Paralympic Game to being a referee delegate and what that, what that's been like.

Because, you know, we mentioned in the introduction that you refereed a bronze medal match, um, at the London 2012 Paralympics.

So you've done it.

Yeah.

Maybe I can't run for Ireland.

And then I clicked into the 2012 Paralympic Games.

I watched the Paralympics.

I watched Jason Smith bring home gold, fastest Paralympian of all time.

Yes.

And then four years later at the London Paralympics, we're making a show called The Last Leg Every Night, all about the Paralympics.

And he brought some of the athletes into the studio and he said, remember what I said to you four years ago? He said, you're telling people about it.

He said, you're doing the best thing you could do for the Paralympics right now.

And then he went on to win gold in the four by 100 meters.

And he won silver in the 200 meters at the 2012 Paralympics.

So he's kicking ass.

Okay.

He has been going to Worthy Farm since the '80s.

And he was also involved in the closing ceremony of the 2012 Paralympic Games.

So to say we have a Glastonbury icon on the show today is a true understatement.

And true to form, the icon of Glastonbury is a busy chap even in a fallow year.
