Put for me 2 Samuel 7 verse 1.

Samuel 7 verse

It's a way of saying that God wants to come and be at home in His world, and that a human being is the best mode in which that could happen.

You get the same, at least I see the same, in II Samuel 7 when David says he wants to build a house for the Lord, meaning a building in Jerusalem, and Nathan the prophet says, "Well, mm, nice try.

No cigar.

Uh, not a bad idea really, but actually your son's gonna do that.

So I already see...

And I think the early Christians picked up exactly that.

I mean, look at the way in which II Samuel 7 is used in, say, Romans 1, 3, and 4, and parallel passages.

So I, I would say- What you find in Genesis 1 is a kind of proto-Trinitarian theology.

We're continuing our series in the one story today, and today we find ourselves in 2 Samuel 7.

So if you would open your Bibles to 2 Samuel 7, that's where we're going to be today.

But in particular, specifically, we're looking at the covenant with David.

This is an awesome text that we get to.

David too raised his heart above his brothers by killing Uriah and stealing his wife.

However, even before David sinned against God and his own country, David desired to build God a permanent residence, and God desired to make a covenant with David.

Let's look now at 2 Samuel 7, verse 1.

Now when the king lived in his house, and the Lord had given him rest from all his surrounding enemies, the king said to Nathan the prophet, see now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells in a tent.

Yes.

And then David stands 1,000 feet away, Second Samuel 7.

And then Isaiah stands 800 feet away, Isaiah chapter 2.

And then Daniel stands 600 feet away, Daniel chapter 2.
