1991 Paris Peace Agreements

The Cambodian Riel had returned, but confidence in it remained fragile.

Then, on October 23, 1991, representatives of the Cambodian factions and international governments signed the Paris Peace Agreements.

The agreements established a framework for ending the conflict, organising national elections and beginning a broader process of political reconstruction.

For Cambodia, this was an important diplomatic breakthrough.
