107.8 Radio Jackie

So, uh, yeah, really good it was.

Well, it was around that time around London that a lot of these pirate stations were starting up, 'cause, uh, when you had your one, Radio Duck, I think there was Radio Jackie down, uh, in, um, um, S- Surbiton.

And, uh, I remember, wasn't there also...

There was... 'Cause Steve H- Steve Coleman, I think, worked on this one.

Do you know what? I, I vaguely remember that, yeah.

Th- 'Cause there were so many pirates back in the day then.

And, and I forgot to mention, actually, I used to listen to all the, the pirates, like Radio Jackie and stuff like that.

And, um, Jackie was a particular favorite of mine.

Yes.

So I am on Marlow FM, and I do a little bit of work for Radio Jackie as well.

Um, which I-

Which I grew up listening to that.

Did you? [laughs]

Yeah, 'cause I grew up in Slough, so that was...

It used to be Countytown Radio when I was a kid, um, and then it became Radio Jackie, didn't it, after that? Um, and I just, yeah, I, I, I think it's incredible what you do, but you bring a lot of your kind of wellness work into the other elements of your work as well.

And one of the things that we have in common is when you're kind of doing work in the media, when you're on social media, you're in a public space talking about wellbeing, the public have to kind of trust that, A, you know what you're talking about, and that you're authentic.

But there are just a few more names in the business I've wanted to talk to about their radio journey, how they got into it, the high points and how they connected with that listener.

And today's Radio Great has been in this business for the past four decades, having worked on stations that include Essex Radio, BBC Radio Essex, MFM, the Chiltern Network, being a part of the launch team of Heart 106 in London, moving out to America, and currently you can catch him on Radio Jackie and Greatest Hits Radio 80s.

But who is today's Radio Great? What is his story? Let's find out.

Remembering the great DJs of radio, it's Radio Greats with the live Luke.

So after many years of living in America, you came back to the UK.

Yes.

And you're back on radio now with Greatest Hits Radio 80s and Radio Jackie.

Yes.
