100 Club

Two weeks later, from the 6th of September, the first international punk festival was held at the 100 Club.

So

this is pre-punk, is my point.

And just when you think the scene is contained, GBH decided to hit the United States.

They joined other UK acts like Discharge and The Exploited on a US tour that took them to venues from New York's The 100 Club to Los Angeles' Hollywood High.

They were literally bringing British Britcore across an ocean.

In America, GBH played alongside early hardcore pioneers like Black Flag and The Adolescents.

It's interesting how each city's punk scene used different venues to propagate that same sound.

In London, CBGB didn't even exist yet, so the clubs like the 100 Club became hubs for the Sex Pistols.

The New York scene had CBGB opening its doors in '75 as an experimental club A space where the Ramones could play dozens of gigs and hone their live reputation without ever being played on radio.

In Detroit, they played venues like the Blue Moon and later the Metro, which were almost basement-like spaces that forced musicians to perform louder because the audience had no choice but to fill the echoing space.

After The Banshees split in 1996, Siouxsie's influence remained visible in goth subcultures, alternative metal bands, even in indie rock circles that saw her as a pioneer of emotional depth and sonic experimentation.

When you look at modern goth outfits, think The Cure, Joy Division, they all borrow that smoky stage presence, that echoing guitar, that black eye of makeup, and you can trace the lineage straight back to Siouxsie's first set in 100 Club's cramped basement.

So while she might have started as a punk outsider who challenged men on a cheap London stage, Siouxsie became a torchbearer for the whole post-punk movement that dared to mix horror with hope, darkness with ambition, and ultimately laid groundwork for gothic rock's emergence.
