1 Kings 17

She's impoverished, she's poor, and Elijah goes, excuse me, man.

This is a true story, 1 Kings 17.

He says, would you make me a cake? She's just looking at him like, did you just ask me to make you a cake? He's like, yeah, would you make me a cake? And she goes, look at me.

I have nothing.

It's amazing.

If we have the Old Testament lesson, 1 Kings 17 says, picking up where we left off last week.

Again, I don't know of any time that we do that.

Now, we'll remember that the, we talk about the one-year lectionary as the historic one-year lectionary.

In fact, I think the list that we have was probably put together for our hymnal.

So it's not that old.

So we have these two lessons back to back from 1 Kings 17 and the widow who is, um, over there in Zarephath, in Sidon, hometown of Jezebel.

Pastor Smith preached last week.

So let's quickly consider how the lectionary texts feed into this gospel.

In 1 Kings 17, verses 17 to 24, it yields a typological parallel.

Elijah raises the son of the widow of Zarephath from the dead.

And luke 7 15 deliberately echoes first kings 17 verse 23 jesus gave him to his mother we find that elijah had to cry out to god and stretch himself three times over the child to plead for his soul but in contrast and fulfillingly jesus commands life into the boy by his own authority demonstrating that he is greater than elijah indeed that he is elijah's god In the epistle from Ephesians 3, we read of the spiritual resurrection of the inner man.
