1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig

Lok Leipzig, Lokomotive Leipzig, who are a traditionally strong lower league club in Germany, have won the North East Regionalliga three times in the last seven years and in back-to-back seasons.

Energy Cottbus won it in 2023, and Dynamo Berlin won it in 2022.

They've got one thing in common.

Liga on a, on a three-year basis.

Yeah.

Unfortunately for Lok Leipzig, Cottbus and, and Dynamo Berlin, they've all missed out [laughs] on it.

But yeah, I mean, how ridiculous is that?

Jamal Zayan is a three-time league champion, but he does not feel like it.

This season, for the second year in a row and the third time in seven seasons, the Lokomotiv Moscow captain hoisted the trophy into the air, having led his team to the Regional League Northwest, which is the fourth tier, the equivalent of League Two in German football.

While other regional champions in the German 4th Division were promoted to the nationwide 3 Liga, Lokomotiv faced a playoff against Würzburger Kickers.

Okay.

Um, many, many Germans were f- okay to turn something of a blind eye to, to Leipzig and say, okay, you know, by the time that Leipzig got promoted to the Bundesliga, I think it had been seven years since we had an East German club there.

And some Germans were s- would say, "Okay, you know, [sighs] we, we don't have VfB Leipzig anymore.

Uh, you know, we can't really get behind Lokomotive Leipzig or Chemie Leipzig, so it's okay that we have this club." Um, what happened with EFZ- 1.

FC Union Berlin's promotion is that erased a lot of that goodwill because for then we had an East German club that had a tradition which was somewhat pro-Western.

Uh, and also, you know, w- I...

Why can't Red Bull get together with, uh, with Chemie and Lokomotive or something like this and, and build a football museum in Leipzig? Uh, that would be really cool because there's a lot of really interesting football in Leipzig.

The old VfB Leipzig, they were the original, uh, uh, German champions.

Um, the East German clubs, uh, they have all sorts of fun history to, to contribute.

All right, from the Regionalliga Bayern.

to the Regionalliga Nord-Ost or North-East, uh, where Erste FC Lokomotive Leipzig are facing Rot-Weiss Erfurt.

Uh, Lokomotive Leipzig, you know, they are one of the most historic clubs in East German football in the DDR.

Um, have won the German championship as VfB Leipzig.

So, you know, there's been different iterations of this football cup.
