Underrated if you are just getting into it, and you're like looking where to start.
Kevin SmithHOST
49:22
Yuri Verkhoshansky and Vladimir, Vladimir Zatsiorsky are by far the two best strength and conditioning authors of all time.
Kevin SmithHOST
49:31
They have a handful of different books that you can read.
Kevin SmithHOST
49:34
They're definitely dry, and you gotta be a nerd to actually enjoy them, but they're incredible.
Jason ManenkoffGUEST
33:21
Yeah, I forgot the name.
Dave TateHOST
33:21
No, no, Verkhoshansky.
Dave TateHOST
33:22
Verkhoshansky.
Jason ManenkoffGUEST
33:22
Verkhoshansky's forum.
Dave TateHOST
33:23
Yeah.
Jason ManenkoffGUEST
33:24
Um, no, I don't think I was, I don't think I was on there.
Jason MartinezGUEST
16:41
Yeah.
Jay DeMayoHOST
16:41
You know? But that intent, Verkhoshansky, like probably my favorite line of his was, "The rest pause is the most important part." Because the intent, like you brought up, the intent in your rest and your recovery, the intent in your nutrition, the intent of all these other things other than how f- did you hit 0.7 meters per second on your bench press, you know, like those other things and the intent behind them are what truly drive the performance.
Jay DeMayoHOST
17:12
And I think we miss that a little too much.
Jason MartinezGUEST
17:15
Well, it, it hides itself or rather disguises itself in a lot of different ways, man.
Yosef JohnsonGUEST
14:46
I remember when I got started, people said, well, you got to be able to squat at least two times your body weight to do plyos.
Yosef JohnsonGUEST
14:51
Now, Yuri never said that.
Yosef JohnsonGUEST
14:54
You got to, you know, all these
Justin LimaHOST
14:55
different...

Yosef JohnsonGUEST
23:32
And she's the one that hung in there.
Yosef JohnsonGUEST
23:34
So yeah, she's a saint in that way, no doubt.
Justin LimaHOST

Getting back to the book, let's put some more respect back on Doc's name because page 564, what's Yuri saying? It was popularized by my friend Michael Yeses talking about Mel Sif and then Bosco and it was like, Doc's name there, right up again, everybody talking about, you know, if everybody wants to attach the name Yuri Verkhoshansky on what they're doing with jumping and power, you can't not put the fact that Yuri's putting Doc's name on it and, you know, again, talking about Jay and Jeff Moyer and you being like Doc.
Justin LimaHOST
24:14
So, again, just throwing some respect on Doc's name right now.
GregoryHOST
20:19
So just to reiterate, because I want to understand this.
GregoryHOST
20:23
So because I read, I read, I tried to read Dr. Yuri Verkhoshansky's book.
GregoryHOST
20:28
It is super hard stuff.
GregoryHOST
20:31
It is super.

GregoryHOST

So let's use all of these numbers when it's the explosiveness, it's fast, it's power.
GregoryHOST
95:34
I get that.
GregoryHOST
95:35
But when you look at Dr. Yuri Verkhoshansky, what did he say? True power development happens between 0.5 seconds between relaxation and tension, right? So when the kettlebell lands in the backswing, that time window is already gone because I don't have that much time to get into full power development.
GregoryHOST
95:52
I'm looking at the
Ross EdgleyGUEST
30:40
Exactly that.
Ross EdgleyGUEST
30:40
You know, and again, you know, Verkhoshansky applied that with Soviet Union principles, you know.
Ross EdgleyGUEST
30:44
Uh, and then Westside Barbell have even taken that.
Ross EdgleyGUEST
30:46
But yeah, it, it is that.
