Zellers

So, but the one, this is where, he came once to Prince George.

He did a promotion for Zellers once.

And I had talked to him once before because he had come to Prince George before.

But with Gordie Howe, and to be honest, growing up as a Montreal Canadiens fan, I didn't really like Detroit.

And I was always for the Richards and the Bellavos.

But I had Gordie Howe, something else.

Well, anyway, he came for a Zellers promotion.

It was supposed to be done by 9 o'clock.

It's a Canadian, now bankrupt Canadian department store chain, very similar to Walmart.

And they were called Zellers.

And they had a mascot named Zeti.

It was a big bear.

It has overexpanded, starts facing too much global and specialized competition, and is fully gone by 1993.

Everything converted to Sold to the Hudson's Bay Company, basically everything becomes a bay or a Zellers in due time.

And so, Cindy, you have this situation in the late 90s where the original vision has gone completely belly up.

The Asian-oriented malls have opened up in the surrounding area.

None of them are the type of anchor story.

It's not like...

I always think of a Sears or a Eaton's or a Zellers, which obviously none of them survive, so maybe I'm defeating my own point.

But I want to go somewhere where I can get everything I need in one space, and none of these anchor tenants are really that.

So yeah, like it's totally the case.

Like the old school Zellers.

I mean, there was like a, not a beef and brown sauce, but like a roast beef sandwich, like turkey sandwich you could get there.

The biggest town I've ever lived in was Smithers.

And I thought it was big because it had a Zellers.

And for me, that was a big deal.

I grew up in Tulamine.

And so I had doggy doo smeared down my nice blue tracksuit that I had bought at Zellers, and that terrorized me the rest of my life, being afraid that you jump in the leaves, you jump in the wrong part, and you've raked another treat up in that pile as well.

Yes, I used to work at two different stores, um, Zellers and Save On Foods.
