Z2

Oh, wow.

Uh, it came out from Z2 Comics.

It's a, it's an actual, you know, official sequel with, uh, uh, uh, um-

Mm-hmm

Mike's also got killer stories about Eddie Vedder's death-defying stage antics, recording and playing with Neil Young, the Ace Frehley connection to his Alive guitar solo, and how Stevie Ray Vaughan legitimately changed his life.

Plus, we get into his love of pro wrestling and his brand-new graphic novel and companion rock opera, Farewell to Seasons, which is out now and available at Z2 Comics.

So much to discuss with Mike McCready.

We got a lot of mutual respect and fandom with each other.

But more recently, they took a swing and a shot at writing a graphic novel called The Lawrence Brothers Detective Agency.

It's available right now from Z2 Comics.

So check your local bookstore or your local comic book shop for that or buy it online at bookshop.org.

But yeah, this episode is with the Lawrence Brothers.

This week, we are upending our Claypool Lennon Delirium timeline to speak with Cage Claypool about a couple of projects he's recently been involved in in the Primus world.

We get to ask him about the old Grizz and Frizzlefry the Phantoms of Barrington Hall, the illustrated book that is out on October 13th everywhere from Z2 Comics.

So here's us catching up with Cage Claypool.

In the case of your art itself, Cage, I don't know if you can confirm or deny this, but what's always struck me about your art is that it seems very inspired by Egon Scheele.

are they're mostly drawings from like 2020 oh

wow

and then uh i ended up busy working on other stuff and it just sort of fell to the wayside and it was always just one of those things like oh yeah we'll get to at some point um and then out of the blue z2 comics reaches out and they're like we wanna we've we've done these collaborations with these other artists Like, they come up with a story based on an album, or it's, like, a read-along thing, or it's, like, there's a lot of different options.

But they wanted to do something for Seeds of Cheese.

I am a professional.

If I have a book out from Z2 Comics, then I've received the requisite number of no's.

So my self-published work is held at the same level.

Until you receive that requisite number of no's, then you are not perceived as a professional.

Yeah, and it was written by and starred the country legend himself.

Z2 Comics is bringing it back to the shelves, and we are going to look really closely at this bizarre, wonderful piece of media.

And we aren't just looking at this as some, you know, quirky piece of vintage merchandise.

Right, like a forgotten lunchbox or something.

The modern landscape is completely saturated, but in 1976, the music merchandising ecosystem was incredibly primitive.

Yeah, I'd imagine.

We bring in the perspective of Z2 Comics president Josh Bernstein here.

Okay.
