I remember my dad saying like, oh, this Xometry and Protolabs thing, I'm going to compete with them.
Z

And I think there's a bit of that in my DNA, too, to try to do this with Metal Supply.

Patrick B., for both of you, do you think Toolpath is worth it for a one-man Xometry slash subtract shop?
H

That's going to be a you question.
A

Yeah.
A

But I don't know anymore.
A
79:13AJHOST
With their old direction, before all of the toolpath mayhem that set in, I would have said yes.
A
79:19AJHOST
If for no other reason than finding good jobs, like on the Subtract and Xometry job board, or knowing which ones are good for you.

Why the Future of AI May Be Smaller: The Rise of Domain-Specific Models
E

For example, if you're in healthcare and you have patient data, if you are filing financially regulated businesses, if you are in defense.
E

In my previous job at Xometry, we deal with a lot of ITER data.

You have to run it in the government cloud or you have to have your own sovereign cloud.
E

So then that means that you cannot use the GPT models, you cannot use anthropic models, so you don't want to go out of your sovereign cloud.
Work Smarter, Not Harder

Then you got the cars guys on the other side that really aren't interested in figuring out how to do these types of things or figuring out how to run a CNC or whatever, but they have a need, right? And if you can just bridge that gap with doing a little bit of CAD in between, you know, and put the two people together, and that's what's happened in recent years, especially with these automated quoting software.
A
39:46Adam ChristianGUEST
'Cause what you guys don't know, or a lot of people don't know, is, like, say Xometry, they don't have a CNC house.
A
39:50Adam ChristianGUEST
What they do is they basically bid it on the backside, right? So you give them the money, and then they go out on the backside and start sending out, you know, jobs to be bid on by these other guys that have CNCs, right? And in the CNC industry, uh, the saying is, "If it's not turning', you're not earning," right? So if, if their machine isn't running and the, the bills do, like, they're gonna go on Xometry, and they're gonna pick up a job, and they're gonna make some, some fuel valves for you or something, right? They don't care.
