Lilis - Special effects, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child & I
L
17:14Lilith SmeeGUEST
And I knew Marcus because Marcus had worked at J&M and had taught me to draft.
L
17:18Lilith SmeeGUEST
What's draft? Using like CAD, AutoCAD and Vectorworks is the big one.
L
17:25Lilith SmeeGUEST
So he taught me a little bit about drafting when I was in school still.
L
17:29Lilith SmeeGUEST
And yeah, he was looking for a sub and he needed somebody who had a certain level of power license to come in.
240: I've Got to Get My Project Out on Friday
C

And those are a byproduct of the model.
C
54:30Campbell YuleGUEST
So but at the same stage, while those drawings are a byproduct of the model, if you took the IFC from Revit and put it into another solution, ArchiCAD, for example, or Vectorworks, you could then go and cut the same drawings, but all the annotation isn't there because it wasn't transferred.

Do you see these as lock in as like a strategy? Or do you just see it as a byproduct?
C
54:56Campbell YuleGUEST
There's a couple of different aspects to it.
239: You're Not Going Home Early
G
62:24Gavin NichollsGUEST
Like, there's...
G
62:25Gavin NichollsGUEST
You've got your similar sort of programs, ArchiCAD, Vectorworks, Allplan.
G
62:29Gavin NichollsGUEST
I think they can all deliver, um, from what I've seen.
G
62:32Gavin NichollsGUEST
Like, people are using them successfully.
8 MINS LATER
H
70:54Holger KreienbrinkGUEST
Now it's called the Design Intelligence Platform.
H
70:58Holger KreienbrinkGUEST
And this is our answer, because we thought we cannot, we, we should not add this to Archicad as an add-on, which is also a possibility, but we should start from scratch because we're not alone on Earth, and even in the Nemetschek Group, it's not us alone.
H
71:14Holger KreienbrinkGUEST
So we also have Allplan and we have Vectorworks tools.
H
71:17Holger KreienbrinkGUEST
So we need to have something with new technology as a next generation tool, and this is now the Design Intelligence Platform.
LIGHT TALK Episode 489 - "The Ladies of Light! - Our Conversation with Kelsey Araghi, Dawn Chiang, Christina Giannelli, and Elena Hewitt"
D
30:36Dawn ChangGUEST
It is entering our lives in, in first steps.
D
30:40Dawn ChangGUEST
Um, I have a colleague who's using AI to, uh, he's in a rep house, um, and whatever the latest version of all the rigging modules that he's plunking into the three venues that they have, um, doesn't interact well with the layers on Vectorworks, so he created an AI, um, process for them to convert all of those new rigging modules so that they now work and play well with the rest of the Vectorworks layers.
D
31:16Dawn ChangGUEST
So I thought that was a [laughs] that's a really tedious thing to have to do manually, and he was able to automate that using AI, which I think is fantastic.
D
31:28Dawn ChangGUEST
Uh, I have all kinds of ideas about ha- how AI can be used, or for the manufacturers to use that to let me get the data I need out of the database of the lighting console, 'cause there's stuff that I still track manually for moving lights and color palettes that, that the computer has and could do, and you could either have the engineers figure out a way to pull that, extract that, or you could use AI potentially as a way to do that.
E
32:28EllenHOST
Elena, on the university level, is it, like, a thing?
E
32:32Elena HewittGUEST
I definitely have some, like, personal qualms about AI use.
E
32:36Elena HewittGUEST
Um, I think that there's some limited and narrow applications for, like, locally run models, um, and certain applications for coding plug-ins, uh, like, uh, Dawn talked about in regards to a Vectorworks plug-in.
E
32:47Elena HewittGUEST
Um, but I think on a larger scale, I, I really don't see the use case, um, especially even in terms of research.
