USA Baseball

Well, I think Frozen Ropes is a great example of it.

I think clinics, you know, I worked with, uh, USA Baseball in Cary, North Carolina, close to my home in Liberty.

Yeah.

Yep.

But Coach Breesy's baseball resume goes well beyond the college game.

He spent more than a decade with USA Baseball, evaluating and coaching some of the best young players in the country.

And that gives him a perspective I've really been looking forward to digging into.

Because today...

I want to talk about what Drew sees when he watches a player that the rest of us might miss.

What separates a talented kid from a real baseball player? What we are getting right and maybe what we're getting wrong in youth baseball.

And what does USA Baseball look for when everybody on the field is already a good player? And maybe most importantly for the parents listening, what actually matters in the development of a young player? And what are we spending way too much time worrying about? There's a lot to unpack with this one.

I mean, there's just so much I can mention about him.

So aside from all of the stuff that he's done coaching high school and college baseball, he also served as a task force scout for USA Baseball, and he was inducted into the Freed Hardeman University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010.

Coach Box is a particularly valuable voice on coaching, leadership, culture, and long-term player development.

Hiya, Coach.

And I'm talking, you know, from everywhere from, I don't know, from age seven or eight now to, to even high school players, they play too many games.

So what would you rather do? Would you rather have, you know, 15 year old kid, let's say, would you rather see him play 70 games or practice 70 times?

Yeah, I think, I think the soccer model, the European soccer model kind of had it right and, And I think USA Baseball and MLB did a study a couple years ago and put out some recommendations.

I thought it was really good.

Today's guest, Meggie Meidlinger, has contributed to the game as an accomplished architect and a pitcher for the USA Women's National Baseball team.

Meggie most recently was awarded Sportswoman of the Year by USA Baseball.

Meggie continues her success in architecture with the recent renovation of the University of Georgia's baseball Foley Field.
