Um, I was asked by the YPS committee here of, uh, ASPS to talk to you about, uh, why I chose a craniofacial fellowship.

I am currently am a craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgeon at the University of Massachusetts in Worcester.

I have a plastic surgery and craniofacial practice that, uh, primarily cares for infants, uh, children, and adolescents.

I actually, uh, started thinking about a craniofacial fellowship probably in my late in my fifth year, maybe early in my sixth year of, uh, integrated plastic surgery training.

Interviewed for primarily actually craniofacial jobs, um, all over the country, which was a very positive experience.

I really enjoyed getting to know, uh, different medical systems, different colleagues.

I was recruited, uh, to the University of Massachusetts Medical School, UMass, in Worcester, um, and I've, uh, been in academic practice now for three years.

The fellowship, looking back, uh, really gave me a lot of confidence and a very specific expertise, um, as I was starting that practice.

Herbert Benson, at Harvard in the 1970s, studied what he called the relaxation response, an early attempt to put meditation's physiological effects on a scientific footing.

John Kabat-Zinn founded Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, MBSR, at the University of Massachusetts in 1979, which later fed into mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, Now, a recommended treatment for preventing relapse in recurrent depression.

Remember, meditation styles include focused attention, open monitoring and transcendental meditation.

It's linked to increased alpha and theta EEG activity and reduced default mode network activity.

Like, that's gonna be a step up in competition from the Q, and I'm gonna be really excited to see what he does.
