The Reality of Mixing Major UK Rap Records With Will Lite | UNSUNG
W
27:09Will LiteGUEST
If it changes the sound.
W
27:10Will LiteGUEST
Yeah, because that really does happen, doesn't it? I've had situations where like UAD update and I open a project that I'm literally handing over like tomorrow and everything's changed.
W
27:21Will LiteGUEST
Like literally gains just plummeted.
J
27:23JocelynHOST
Yeah, that's the main thing with UAD.
J
27:25JocelynHOST
I have noticed this.
J

And they...

We started with a different interface that I'm not going to mention because halfway through the recording, because I was mixing it and I'm like, fuck, I can't get it to like, I just couldn't crack it.
S
56:11Scott MontoyaGUEST
And then halfway through, we traded a B15 bass amp for an Apollo, a UAD Apollo.
S
56:19Scott MontoyaGUEST
And It was like I was still working with it.
S
56:22Scott MontoyaGUEST
All right.
The One Concept That Unlocks Blues Playing | Corey Congilio
C
17:31Corey CongilioGUEST
And I think for most people, because of the global pandemic that we all went through, you know, but it was late 2019.
C
17:37Corey CongilioGUEST
I was doing stuff also for Universal Audio.
C
17:40Corey CongilioGUEST
because I had friends that worked at all these companies and they all splinter off and go in other places.
C
17:44Corey CongilioGUEST
And they're like, Corey's the guy, Corey's the guy, Corey's the guy.
C
18:06Corey CongilioGUEST
You know, I'm the guy behind the product, but this is what they're hiring me for to make this thing sound as good as it can and encourage somebody to buy it someday.
C
18:15Corey CongilioGUEST
So anyway, I feel like I do that really well, which is why companies, I think, enjoy working with me.
C
18:22Corey CongilioGUEST
But when I was in 2019 NAMM show, I think I was doing an event for Universal Audio And I started seeing more people get interested in getting their picture taken with like a Rick Beato or somebody like that one.
C
18:33Corey CongilioGUEST
I'm like, oh, the tide has turned.
Finding Success In The Music Business - S1E11
C
36:19Corbin YoungGUEST
You know, I think there's a lot of great plugins out there, and a lot of them are free now.
C
36:27Corbin YoungGUEST
UAD just released their free bundle, which includes their 1176 plugin, which is probably my favorite compressor.
C
36:37Corbin YoungGUEST
I would like to get their de-stressor plugin, but I haven't got it yet.
C
36:41Corbin YoungGUEST
But their 1176, just every time I do a

C
61:41Charlie ClouserGUEST
For anybody that has an unruly plugin collection or tests plugins and needs to manage moving sketchy things in and out of folders, it's very complete, very sturdy.
C
61:53Charlie ClouserGUEST
And if I enable all the plugins... old, new, Waves, UAD, everything on my system, I'm ashamed to admit that it's a total of 8,477, which includes, you know, each plug-in counts as three in many cases, an AAX, an AU, and a VST3.
C
62:14Charlie ClouserGUEST
So that number is misleadingly large, but this plug-inized manager, it's ridiculous.
C
62:23Charlie ClouserGUEST
I really admit that it's ridiculous.
Apollo Twin X: The Audio Interface Musicians Need? - Live With It
S
14:58Sarah LaneHOST
And what was your solution before and why did you say, you know what, it's time?
J
15:04Jason HowellGUEST
Well, before this, I believe what I was using before I had the UAD box was the 11 rack, which is back there below the little keyboard thing.
J
15:16Jason HowellGUEST
It's the orange box back there.
J
15:18Jason HowellGUEST
It's called the 11 rack, and it's like an audio interface designed by the company that created – Pro Tools at the time.
J
15:38Jason HowellGUEST
That was what I was using as my interface for the longest time, but it was kind of an older unit and it was fine.
J
15:43Jason HowellGUEST
It served its purpose for when I had it.
J
15:45Jason HowellGUEST
But when I was working at Twit, I reviewed the UAD arrow i believe which was the predecessor to this and when i reviewed that i immediately was like oh my goodness when can i get one of these for myself and thankfully i waited a couple of years because they ended up coming out with the apollo twin and that was what i ended up pulling the trigger on and it was more capable and everything but um yeah that was kind of my and then i've also used the scarlet you know like like we all have in in podcast world i use the scarlet a lot as well

Maybe this will work, and then I can uncover my embarrassment.

What's up, everyone? My name's Chris Hazel, and today we're going to take a look at Universal Audio's massive new release, Luna 3.0.
C
39:52Chris HazelSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
Now, it seems like yesterday that Luna 2.0 came out, and honestly, it's kind of amazing how much of a leap forward this already great love it introduces of their transcription powered by Moises to some features that you made by producing a piece of music.

This is really interesting.
Headliner USA 216: Carlos de la Garza: Producing Jjerome87’s The Canyon
A
45:06AdamHOST
So yeah, were there any effects plugins or VSTs that ended up being really important on this album and project?
C
45:13Carlos de la GarzaGUEST
Uh, plugin-wise, I think it's the usual, like, um, you know, I'm a heavy user of all Universal Audio.
C
45:22Carlos de la GarzaGUEST
Um, that's, that's kinda my go-to in terms of my, my plugins and my effects, uh, especially, like, the, um, the, uh, the, um...
C
45:35Carlos de la GarzaGUEST
Sorry, the AMS reverb, like the non-lin, and the, the 910, uh, harmonizer for, like, certain spatial things.
Tips for Live Recordings & Mixing in Pro Tools with Garrett Miller
G
69:14Garrett MillerGUEST
So that's what that meant.
G
69:16Garrett MillerGUEST
UAD has the cool Hemisphere plug-in that goes with their whole line of modeling microphones.
G
69:27Garrett MillerGUEST
I have not used any of their other modeling microphones, just these pencil condensers.
G
69:33Garrett MillerGUEST
And, like, they've got these different Neumanns.
13 MINS LATER
G

And then I had the secondary laptop doing a Dante record.
G
82:36Garrett MillerGUEST
And then I had a third laptop with my Apollo Twin, which I don't have set up in here.
G
82:41Garrett MillerGUEST
If I ever actually have a session that has too much UAD, like too many UAD plugins, I can hook up my Twin as well and get an extra two chips of DSP.
G
82:56Garrett MillerGUEST
But UAD has moved a bunch of their stuff native to where that never happens anymore.

If a producer can deliver high-quality sessions on their own rigs via cloud upload, they're more appealing to labels that need flexibility.
