That's a classic sign you're over-tightening.

The other thing to be aware of, just as we come into winter, I had a whole load of wheel insecurity issues in Scotland in the winter of 2010-11, which, if you remember, was that very, very cold winter where we regularly got temperatures as low as minus 18, and it was thought by TRL Transport Research Laboratory, that the reason why they were attracting so many was the exceptionally cold weather was shrinking the metal and therefore creating effectively the lack of wheel nut pressure against the hub, which was enabling them to then self-unwind.

So I'm really sorry there's not a simple answer to your question, and I think You're right about the risk and I think you need to just monitor that very carefully and maybe increase the frequency in which you're changing your studs, but of course changing any component again means taking the wheels off, which again creates a risk that otherwise you might not have had.

There is a vicious circle here.

So I was looking at how people use what they see to guide their actions.

I was then, after the research period, I said, how can I apply this in something useful? And that led me to TRL, which is the Transport Research Laboratory in the UK, and to lead their human factors and driver behaviour research using simulators and test tracks and naturalistic driving studies.

And, you know, looking at all that research to understand why crashes happen, I also wanted to do work on preventing crashes, and that led me down a path of driver assistance systems and then ultimately automated driving as well and through that got to lead some big projects on that topic ultimately um had an opportunity to join bosch as their head of mobility r&d and then since 2019 i've been independent but that also includes supporting the dft the department for transport in the uk on their science advisory council
