Tour de Cure

Bethany now has long COVID and has developed POTS, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, which saw her barely even able to walk for a whole year and from which she has not fully recovered.

Prior to this, Bethany was on the organizing committee for a cancer fundraising run associated with Tour de Cure.

She has also just returned to her volunteering gig with Surf Life Saving Australia, where she tries to provide first aid without ever getting in the water.

Bethany is a powerhouse of a woman.

We did some great stuff for the Salvos over the years.

We effectively launched and helped drive the Tour de Cure, a cancer charity that I'm involved in.

That would not have existed as it does today if it wasn't for Sunrise and the support of Sunrise viewers.

Yeah.

You've done spectacular work over many years now with Tour de Cure.

I'm really curious to know what has been the driving motivator for you as to why you've used your platform, your life, To be involved in making a difference in the ways that you have, Mark.

Mm-hmm.

So Tour de Cure I got involved with.

It's a cycling charity for cancer research.

Um, they finished outside of the Sunrise studios, Martin Place, 20 years ago.

And he thought that wasn't a bad idea.

Yeah.

Then I had to go to Tour de Cure and say, "Listen, we, we could change the way you do things 'cause we're gonna come and do Sunrise and get this whole audience behind what you do."

Yeah.
