And I was working for Smart Harbor at the time, and the big fish, of course, our product was all geared towards agencies, right? And the big fish were the carriers.
Callan HarringtonHOST
5:28
And the CMO of Travelers was going to be speaking at this event.
Callan HarringtonHOST
5:32
So for me, I don't know, I probably read some book that was like, you need to put all of your eggs in one basket, go after the biggest fish.
Callan HarringtonHOST
5:39
Because I always tried to do this at every single conference.
Callan HarringtonHOST
6:51
Didn't matter.
Callan HarringtonHOST
6:52
Anything else that happened after that, it legit didn't matter.
Callan HarringtonHOST
6:55
Okay, so why am I telling you this story? How does this have anything to do with what I'm saying? I was doing that for a C-level person at Travelers.
Callan HarringtonHOST

Hello, Rob.
Zaron BurnettHOST

Why deviate from what's working? Eventually, this cat, Scott Cornell, who's a cargo theft expert, doesn't really matter.
Zaron BurnettHOST
35:36
He's the head of transportation unit for Travelers Insurance.
Zaron BurnettHOST
35:39
So he tells Philadelphia Magazine that, quote, There were usually somewhere between 8 and 15 people.
Zaron BurnettHOST
35:46
Either they had grown up together or they were related.
Shane TatumHOST
4:21
Right.
Shane TatumHOST

received the award alongside Travelers Insurance.
Shane TatumHOST
4:27
So there's a carrier giving an award, some other organizations across the country.
Shane TatumHOST
4:34
And so, yeah, like that was really cool.
Corey RekersHOST
10:50
They'd have to go there for that.
Corey RekersHOST
10:51
But definitely seeing some of the major carriers come back into play, whether it's West Bend, auto owners, Cincinnati, Travelers, Selective now, Acuity, and some others.
Corey RekersHOST
11:00
So anything else our owners should be aware of?
Tyler StarbeckGUEST
11:02
Yeah, I would say, you know, with the market softening up, rates potentially going down a little bit here, the cheapest isn't always going to be the best.
Matthew HarrisGUEST
19:17
And the same can be said of many other verticals.
Matthew HarrisGUEST
19:20
They make a lot of money from the insurance industry, and that will likely inhibit them from competing with Travelers, who is a massive customer of theirs, competing with Aon and Willis Towers Watson, who are massive customers of theirs.
Matthew HarrisGUEST
19:34
They feel like they have enough fish to fry selling, of course, just base intelligence and then building vertical applications on top of that to sell to those corporate end users, not to mention consumer businesses, which they also have.
Matthew HarrisGUEST
19:50
they may look at those three vectors the intelligence vertical applications consumer and horizontal applications like coding applications for instance they may look at that and say that's not enough we also have to start a law firm or a home health agency or an earth moving business but our probabilistic view is that will be pretty long down the path and may never happen like for instance In fintech land where I've been living for a long time, there's always this question of, you know, if you look at Google and Amazon and Facebook and Apple, which one of those will move aggressively into consumer financial services? And the ones that have always had the most capability actually were Google and Facebook.
Jane KimGUEST
38:00
I'm going to just end with this one other thought.
Jane KimGUEST
38:03
So Travelers Insurance, just to give people insight into just how profitable this industry has become, Travelers, which is one of the top 10 insurance companies in this country, announced in April of 2026 that they made so much money, so much excess capital that they had $2.2 billion in excess capital.
Jane KimGUEST
38:25
So what did they do with that 2.2 billion? Did our homeowners see refunds or discounts? Did they invest it in making our community safer? No, they gave 100% of that 2.2 billion in excess capital to their shareholders.
Jane KimGUEST
38:39
That's our money.

And it's pretty exciting, but that's a small commercial solution, obviously extendable into mid-market over time as well, but slightly different value prop for small commercial versus mid-market, but similarly exciting for agents and carriers.

But it's got to have something to do with regulations because when you represent – let's say the average agent has 20 carriers or whatever it is, 12 carriers.
Peter Van AertrijkHOST

Once you place the business with Travelers of Trump, once you place it, you're an agent.
Peter Van AertrijkHOST
