The Institute For Outdoor Learning

My name's Rob Carmichael, and welcome to the Outdoor Education Podcast.

Today I'm delighted to be joined by Jo Barnett, Chief Executive Officer of the Institute for Outdoor Learning.

Jo's career has taken her from geography teaching into outdoor and environmental education, residential center leadership, local authority outdoor education, and now national sector leadership through IoL.

Along the way, she has been closely involved in professional standards, sustainability, access to nature, high quality outdoor learning, and wider advocacy for the profession.

But all these wonderful people, these practitioners, they're often very dedicated and very thoughtful about what they do, but they are key to it going from an experience to a learning, outdoor learning event.

And they deserve recognition, and it's quite hard to get recognition.

I mean, that was one of the, the key purposes right at the beginning when the, uh, accredited practitioner of, of the Institute for Outdoor Learning started.

It was to recognize the other skills, such as how you put a program together, how you make things work for the, the children, young people or adults you're working with.
