Amacher, that, "I and Talarico had in fact been a patient at the Lindner Center of HOPE near Cincinnati, Ohio, which specializes in around-the-clock mental health treatment."
Jesse SingalHOST
24:03
And, and then he ends it with just this, like, utterly bullshit bit.
Jesse SingalHOST
24:06
He goes, "While I sympathize with those dealing [laughs] with mental health crises-
Mark DavisHOST
4:11
But I thought, "This, this guy seems like he has a story to tell," and I have curiosity as to how this even arose.
Mark DavisHOST
4:20
So the young man who called this Lindner Center of HOPE and went through this back and forth with the employee, or the employee ostensibly...
Mark DavisHOST
4:29
I mean, was that fake? Was it AI? Was that a real person? We'll ask because at 8:35, Ryne Amacker joins us.
Mark DavisHOST
4:38
So I'm grateful.
Jordan BermanHOST
28:17
The following day, a former fundraiser for President Trump, Caroline Wren, posted flight tracking information that showed a private plane.
Jordan BermanHOST
28:33
had flown from Austin, Texas to an airport in Hamilton, Ohio, which she pointed out was about 20 minutes from a psychiatric hospital called the Lindner Center of Hope.
Jordan BermanHOST
28:44
But Wren did not share any other evidence that connected Tallarico to that specific plane.
Jordan BermanHOST
28:49
But the piece of evidence that really kind of made this rumor viral was this phone call that a to the Lindner Center.
Jordan BermanHOST
30:34
So obviously, as you heard in that clip, the woman on the phone seems to say that someone with the name Tallarico had been discharged earlier that night.
Jordan BermanHOST
30:43
However, after and I should note that that call was made on the night of October 10th.
Jordan BermanHOST
30:49
However, after that recording was posted, the Lindner Center itself then issued a statement saying, quote, Representative James Tallarico has never received treatment from the Lindner Center of Hope, end quote.
Jordan BermanHOST
31:02
Tallarico reposted that statement and wrote, quote, I've never even been to Ohio, end quote.
Chas LicciardelloHOST
18:32
Some very journalistic language there.
Chas LicciardelloHOST
18:34
Following reporting by da, da, da, da, da, a hospital employee told Ryan Amacher and I that Tallarico had in fact been a patient at the Lindner Center of HOPE near Cincinnati, Ohio, which specializes in around the clock mental health treatment.
Chas LicciardelloHOST
18:47
You can tell just how high Sorto's journalistic standards are, that he pretends the hospital spoke to him as well.
Melina WicksHOST
18:54
Mm-hmm [laughs].
Chas LicciardelloHOST
20:48
But we'll come back to that.
Chas LicciardelloHOST
20:51
Most importantly, though, the Lindner Center entered the picture, and they explicitly denied the story, tweeting out, "Rep.
Chas LicciardelloHOST
20:59
James Tallarico has never received treatment from Lindner, from Lindner Center of HOPE." So they didn't just say, "No comment, we c- we can't, we c- we..." Like, the call isn't true or something.
Chas LicciardelloHOST
21:10
They just said he has flat out never been there.
Alex PearlmanHOST
67:12
giant poster that he created that is tagged as being made with AI, where he writes, correction, the claim that James Tallarico received treatment in an Ohio mental health facility was false.
Alex PearlmanHOST
67:23
The Lindner Center of Hope says he has never received treatment there.
Alex PearlmanHOST
67:26
His documented public appearances in Texas also contradict the alleged timeline.
Alex PearlmanHOST
67:31
The earlier claim is retracted.
Miles GrayHOST
14:10
And then posted a huge graphic that says, correction, the claim that James Tallarico received treatment at an Ohio mental health facility was false.

Elon Musk elevated a false conspiracy theory about, uh, Democrat James Talarico over the weekend, lifting a fringe claim concerning the Texan's, uh, mental health to the forefront of users X feeds, where it garnered hundreds of thousands of impressions.
Howard KurtzHOST
20:39
"The Talarico campaign is hiding something big that voters ought to know about," Musk wrote, replying to a post that Talarico had been checked into the Lindner Center of Hope, a mental health facility, uh, while he was off the trail.
Howard KurtzHOST
20:53
Musk's reply amassed over 870,000 viewers.
Howard KurtzHOST
20:57
The theory had been circulating online for days, fueled by Talarico's absence from the campaign trail, which his team has said was due to the flu.
Howard KurtzHOST
21:05
Uh, Ken Paxton promoted a Talar freakout tip line on Friday.
Howard KurtzHOST
21:10
President Trump weighed in, argued the Democrat's convalescence was too long to be the flu bug.
Howard KurtzHOST
21:16
"So James Talarico has never received treatment from the Lindner Center of Hope," the facility wrote in a statement five hours after Musk's post.
Howard KurtzHOST
21:24
Talarico said he had never even been to Ohio with a laughing emoji.
Travis ViewHOST
38:04
And then on top of that, on October 11th, the facility made a pretty definitive statement.
Julian FeeldHOST
38:10
Representative James Talarico has never received treatment from Lindner Center of Hope.
Travis ViewHOST

Todd HuffHOST

In the recording released by Nick Sortor and Ryne Amacher, a woman who identifies herself as an employee of the Lindner Center of Hope in Ohio says Talarico had recently been discharged.
