Patrick KlepekHOST
58:53
There's really no reading on it right here.
Patrick KlepekHOST
58:56
Um, and then also, uh, the, the layoffs extended even to places like The Coalition, who are about to ship a, a new Gears of War game, Gears of War: E-Day.
Patrick KlepekHOST
59:07
Um, as you noted, Rob, uh, Josh Daniels, uh, cinematic director for Halo, was promoted and then laid off in the same week.
Patrick KlepekHOST
59:14
Uh, and then, uh, Joa- uh, Juan Vaca.
Giovanni ColantonioGUEST
42:33
Like, there are only, like, three studios left, uh, I think, under that banner right now.
Giovanni ColantonioGUEST
42:37
Uh, there is, there is basically just, like, The Coalition, which is currently working on Gears E-Day.
Giovanni ColantonioGUEST
42:43
Uh, there is-
Brian SheaHOST
42:44
Which they also laid off, like, one of their directors right before launch.
Brian SheaHOST
44:07
Mm
Giovanni ColantonioGUEST
44:07
...
Giovanni ColantonioGUEST
44:07
The Coalition being, like, gutted o- once their games come out.
Giovanni ColantonioGUEST
44:11
Um, unless they're, like, huge success stories.
Nick CalandraHOST
39:08
Like, they have offloaded or sold all of the studios that were acquired over the last 10 years.
Nick CalandraHOST
39:16
The only studios that are left that are like specifically under Xbox now are inXile, Playground Games, and uh, uh, The Coalition.
Nick CalandraHOST
39:27
That's it.
Nick CalandraHOST
39:28
Those three studios.
Nick CalandraHOST
43:22
So yeah.
KC NwosuHOST
43:22
Yeah.
Nick CalandraHOST
43:22
I mean, I personally, like personally, like yeah, I think, you know, The Coalition, I can see that moving under Activision in another year, and I think InXile will go under Bethesda 'cause they're an RPG studio.
Nick CalandraHOST
43:33
And then Playground Games, I don't know, I don't know where you'd put them.
Mike MinottiHOST
11:14
But now
Jeff GrubbHOST
11:15
the only exclusives that are back are the Coalition's game and in Exile's game.
Jeff GrubbHOST
11:19
Right.
Jeff GrubbHOST
11:19
Like Activision doesn't release exclusive just for Xbox.
speaker_1UNKNOWN
23:26
as soon
Tom OrryHOST
23:26
as this ships like this happened already with with the coalition right and there was talk of someone losing their job like literally like as soon as it went gold kind of thing it's like oh it's
Alex DonaldsonHOST
23:36
well unfortunately you look at it and all the teams that have games to launch in the relative near future they have not touched so they have not moved because I thought for instance I was surprised that in exile didn't also go under Bethesda at the same time as Obsidian but my guess is that Microsoft don't want to upset whatever the marketing plan is for Clockwork Revolution that's been built.
Alex DonaldsonHOST
24:02
And probably Bethesda doesn't want to inherit a marketing plan and have to retrofit it to how they do things.
Alex DonaldsonHOST
24:08
So you leave Clockwork Rev where it is.
Alex DonaldsonHOST
24:10
You leave the coalition where they are until Gears of Ships and you've done your post-launch stuff.
Alex DonaldsonHOST
24:15
And Playground also.
Alex DonaldsonHOST
24:18
you leave them.
Carlos RomeroHOST
11:01
They can't handle multiple studios.
Carlos RomeroHOST
11:05
The Coalition somehow, the Coalition with a C, the Coalition somehow is the only one that had the spinoff, you know, because they had to pick it up from Epic, Gears that is, and did a pretty decent job.
Carlos RomeroHOST
11:19
But 3.4.3 just didn't have that same sauce that Bungie did.
Carlos RomeroHOST
11:22
And You know, we saw it throughout their whole...

21 MINS LATER

Chris SeeleyPANELIST
32:54
Yeah.
Chris SeeleyPANELIST
32:55
A lot of projects were being subsidized by Minecraft.
Chris SeeleyPANELIST
32:58
so you still have minecraft still generating revenue still got licenses with every other uh console so it doesn't matter what you buy minecraft on the switch microsoft gets a cut of that uh so you have to cut all everything else out and just focus on on key ips so they're just gonna do what's safe now i don't know like we were joking about fable fable seems to be still happening but you gotta course correct that game if you if you have weirdo hobgoblins as characters i don't think anybody's gonna go for that uh you know um forza is not um you know a system seller it's people love it but it's not i don't think it's it's that key uh so they're trying to salvage halo which is the move to activision They're going to lean on Gears, so Coalition has to come through with this next game.
Chris SeeleyPANELIST
33:52
And they're going to have to just try to consolidate and figure out something like lean on, I guess, Fallout 5, Elder Scrolls 6, whatever else they got going on.
OwenPANELIST
32:28
I hate that.
TonyHOST
32:29
And Coalition is a fantastic studio.
TonyHOST
32:34
Even if you were to say, oh, I don't really care for the Gears of War games, from a technical perspective, the Coalition is one of the top technical video game studios out there that utilizes Unreal Engine.
TonyHOST
32:46
They make Unreal Engine games look and perform better than Epic does, and Epic makes the dang engine.
TonyHOST
32:52
So it would be...
Sean BookerHOST
49:01
You are gone.
Sean BookerHOST
49:03
So clearly the coalition also received some amount of layoffs.
Sean BookerHOST
49:07
I would assume that's not part of that 200 number that we got from Halo.
Sean BookerHOST
49:12
So it's still a little unclear how many people are gone necessarily.
Christopher DringHOST
13:19
The three studios that's still under XGS, Halo is a studio as well, actually, so maybe it's four.
Christopher DringHOST
13:25
It's Gears of War Developer, The Coalition, Fable and Forza Horizon Studio Playground Games, and Clockwork Revolution Creator.
Christopher DringHOST
13:31
In Exile, all three studios have a new game out over the next 12-ish months.
Christopher DringHOST
13:36
It feels like Xbox is keeping things as they are while these companies work on these projects.
Christopher DringGUEST
21:18
So there were three studios that haven't moved.
Christopher DringGUEST
21:20
So Playground, InXile and Coalition all have games coming out in the next 12 months, 12-ish months.
Christopher DringGUEST
21:27
And so, you know, let's not unsettle that and get those games launched.
Christopher DringGUEST
21:32
And I think you think when you think a playground could that, you know, actually in Exile seems like an obvious fit for Bethesda, but I'm not quite the playground.
Christopher DringGUEST
21:52
So there's that.
Christopher DringGUEST
21:54
But you'd end up with a lot in Bethesda
Alex DonaldsonHOST
21:56
in that sense, because I think actually Coalition probably belongs there as well, in the sense that the people who are publishing Doom probably make a lot of sense to publish Gears.
Christopher DringGUEST
22:03
Yeah, I don't know.
