Architecture Foundation

It's great to see so many people out on such a beautiful summer's evening.

I'm Matthew Blunderfield, the producer of the Architecture Foundation, and this is a special installment of our Architecture on Stage series here at the Barbican, where we're recording an episode of Scaffold, the AF's podcast, with my guest tonight, John Tuomey.

Tuomey needs little introduction in this room, so I'll keep this short.

He was born in Tralee in 1954, grew up in Dundalk, studied architecture at UCD, and on graduating, went on to London to work at James Stirling's.

Yeah

... and, and, and nothing else.

I, I was at a event in the Irish Architecture Foundation, not dissimilar to this except I wasn't on stage, and I said something at the end of the presentation.

A- and the person on stage said, you know, in a pitying voice said, "Ah, you still believe in the physical city?" And I thought, "Well, I came here on my bicycle." [audience laughing] I s- locked my bicycle to the key walls.
