And, you know, in addition to Brett's crack addiction that he's been very open about, Neil Codling had serious health struggles as well.

What the catalyst of them getting back together was when Roger Daltrey of The Who offered them one of the prestigious Teenage Cancer Trust gigs in the Royal Albert Hall as a charity gig.

And they've released it subsequently as a live album.

It was, and there was no other plan apart from doing that gig.

But it was more about the people and refinding themselves.

And we worked with the Teenage Cancer Trust, and we worked with Dr., Dr. Rachel Howe, who's a, a, a sort of, um, pediatric oncology specialist.

We worked with, you know, research groups.

We really tried to get the authenticity through and, you know, we heard stories of young people running down the, the hallways of hospitals having races with their IV drips.

But it's amazing how it touches everybody in such a kind of intimate and emotional way.

Um, it's so close to, to everybody.

And, you know, we cast a couple of young survivors in the film as well, the Teenage Cancer Trust really helped us go out and find both professional actors.

There, there was no charity, right? They-

Picked my daughter up yesterday, my youngest daughter, daughter number two.

She'd been away this week up in the Lake District with Teenage Cancer Charity, Ellen McCarthy.

Most people who climb Snowdon at least wait until daylight, but Shaftesbury's Daryl Coleman is planning to start at 2 o'clock in the morning.

He'll be heading up Erwythfa, as the mountain's now officially known using its Welsh name, on Saturday 12th September, with a group raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust...

Get up there for the sunrise, hopefully.

And that sunrise is quite an incentive.

Daryl works for City Plumbing in Gillingham and lives off Allen Road here in Shaftesbury.

Basically, I used to like running, but I've got a dodgy ankle, so I had to put that to the side and I just started walking down again on the weekends by myself across the woods and out near there.

And I was sitting at work a few months ago now, and one of our ladies in our office put up in our community chat for the company that it's happening through Teenage Cancer Trust, which City Plumbing are part of.

And they said, just pay us deposit and then get enough money raised and go run it.

Yeah.

At the Moat Ground, uh, 10 o'clock kickoff, and we are playing Castle Gresley, uh, Teenage Cancer Trust, and it's, uh... all the players are paying £5 to play, and that's to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Uh, so if you like your football and you wanna come down on Sunday to watch and help a good charity out-

[coughs]

Yeah.

Uh, I'm not 100% sure on the result.

Uh, but, uh, yeah, so football 10:00 Sunday morning, supporters club versus T- uh, Teenage Cancer Trust.

Then at half past 1:00, uh, Gresley Rovers ladies first team playing Dove Ridge, which obviously they both, they both got promoted last season-

But then Roger Daltrey came calling, of a fashion.

His Teenage Cancer Trust shows that took place at the Royal Albert Hall.

Although, rather, word not to Brett that Roger Daltrey might be interested in having swayed on the bill.

It's a somewhat romantic thought that Roger Daltrey contacted Brett himself and persuaded the band to get back together.

you could say that he himself has formed when the Who themselves reformed for Live Aid at 1985, although given how diffident he was during the interviews around that time and the famous fact that the power went out across the whole arena when they were doing My Generation, maybe it's probably not the best omen to draw upon in any event.

But word did get to Brett that Swade were invited to play at the Teenage Cancer Trust in what would eventually be 2010.

And there was tentative acceptance amongst most members of the band.

We now know that Richard was the most reluctant of all, to the point where he asked Brett if he was going to contact Bernard to play these shows, which, from when I first learned that to talking about it now, is a real breathtaking on and in.

The person I've learned most from on this topic is the brilliant leadership coach, Paul McKenzie from Giant Steps.

Paul is a very experienced fundraiser with roles leading teams and departments at various UK charities, including Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital Charity, DePaul, and Teenage Cancer Trust.

I think sometimes our desire to be nice gets in the way of what we actually need.

Being nice instead of being kind is a big issue.

So my brand story isn't as impressive as I think people want it to be.

And I've been in fundraising for about 23 years.

I was director of fundraising and comms at Teenage Cancer Trust.

Before that, the same role at DePaul UK.

It's very valid reply.

also I would love I said before I'd love for Petra Boys to continue to chuck in some of these rarities and I think Positive Role Model would be a great one but actually I'd really like to hear a full set of rarities I think the last time we had that was the Royal Albert Hall show that we saw for Teenage Cancer Trust that featured the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra an incredible unique moment but of course they were orchestral versions I'd love to hear the full electronic versions of some of these less known tracks

Oh, that was a great night, wasn't it? Really special.

Really, like, yeah, monumental.

That's what it is.

And I'm so lucky I'm now an ambassador for Teenage Cancer Trust.

Yes, tell me about that.

Oh my God, it's been amazing.

Why is it happening now? Not like anyone deserves it, but it's just that anger as a young person.

And so, again, you feel isolated in that sense because you feel very young, but then you're too old for the children's unit.

So Teenage Cancer Trust have created these wards and these units for younger people in that funny, like blurred lines area that they can be young.

They can be themselves.

Yeah.

And in that time, Suede lost the slot that they were going to have as part of the Teenage Cancer Trust run of shows.

They got moved to a different night.

Um, and it was... it's very possible that there'd have been no slot at all for them in the end.
