And that was really the focus of Genentech in getting that approved.

There was another company called Tanox that was looking at another anti-IgE product, and they were studying a peanut allergy.

And then there was some patent wars going

on.

Things got a little complicated and so Genentech bought Tanox and got the patents and everything.

But one of the problems that developed in studying Xolair or Tanox for food allergy was that the FDA was concerned about, they weren't sure exactly how to evaluate a biologic for food allergy.

And initially they thought that you would have to do these open, do these studies where you would want to show that a medication like Zolair would reduce emergency room visits or reduce deaths in a controlled fashion.

And so the pharmaceutical companies looked at this and they said, that's not possible.
