Sydney Dance Company

So I started off as a classical and contemporary dancer.

So yeah, dance professionally with Sydney Dance Company, with Taz Dance, lots of very pretentious independent dance, which mostly involves rolling around on the floor.

And, yeah, it was great.

And then I actually had a spontaneous pneumothorax whilst I was over in Paris walking.

But yeah, but we got there.

But shout out to Sydney Dance Company for being so, so accommodating and

understanding.

Because

Yeah.

It's funny.

When we first, like, got the offer from Sydney Dance Company, because the way this came about, guys, actually wasn't our idea.

Sydney Dance Company was turning 40.

We'll get a little bit more into it from what I have gathered.

And currently his work, One Song, is premiering with Sydney Dance Company.

And I read that it's a love letter to Sydney.

Is that correct?

So if you're doing it, how are you doing it differently? You know, and so for me, it's a lineage.

So I feel that younger artists, my two cents worth to them would be look at your lineage and then you know where you are and what's been before you.

Current is the season for Sydney Dance Company and I'm one of the four choreographers who have made work.

First work is by the artistic director, Rafael Bonichella.

She became the principal of Royal Ballet.

She's been in Sydney Dance Company.

And she taught at my dance school years ago.

She started her first ballet class at 14.

It probably doesn't immediately leap to mind.

You'd probably more think, oh, I should probably go to Sydney or at least one of the big capital cities and, you know, go to the Sydney Dance Company or sort of one of those institutions as though that's the only place that dance is taught.

But obviously it isn't.

It's taught out the same with music.
